Russ getting some accolades this week.

Vernon Davis practically calls him the best young QB in the NFL.

The PFWA or whatever gave him the Good Guy Award.

Part of the decision of Kevin Williams coming here was because of Russell Wilson.

And now this with Brady Quinn pretty much saying Russell Wilson is the mold and role model every young QB that is the face of a franchise should be emulating.

Lots of great stuff.

Nice of Quinn to say, and I appreciate what Wilson does do for so many little kids, but Quinn's issue with Manziel is silly. Johnny Manziel's responsibility is not to be a role model to kids. It's nice that Wilson seems to want to take on that mantle, but Manziel is not beholden to doing the same thing.

I wouldn't go as far to say that Manziel needs to be a role model, but the starting QB is the face of your franchise. They don't live by the same standards as other players and often set the tone for the rest of the team. Usually, most organizations want their people in key leadership positions to project a certain image. Don't see why football teams should be excluded. For Johnny's own sake, he should remember Russell's saying: "there's a king in every crowd."

Quinn was a guest analyst on NFL Network earlier this off-season and had very positive things to say about Russell then as well.

It's funny that practically minimum wage military are held to a higher standard than million dollar QBs at the same age. Only in America.

.....only if he wants to grow up!

The last place I would worry about getting "why don't you grow up?" criticism from is a bunch of fans that think because you play football for their entertainment, they own you.

I'll say that DavidSeven's point is fair enough.

As for the military comment, it's sad to say, but welcome to how the market works. They can find lots of privates in the military, but only about twenty people can play QB at the highest level. Scarcity allows the QBs to get away with a whole lot more - and get paid a whole lot more. I know you know this and are just shaking your head at how it is, and I get where you're coming from, but on the other hand, talented people with marketable skills earn every dollar they get.

Quinn was a guest on the NFL network late last season. One of the talking heads was talking up another QB comparison and stated that so and so (I can't recall who they were talking about) has considerably more "arm talent" than Russell Wilson. Quinn stepped in and said whoa... Have you ever actually seen Wildon throw in person? Cause I have and he has as powerful an arm as I have ever seen and can call it up when he needs it.

He's a good dude, and just because he wasn't a good QB, doesn't take away from the fact that he likely has a lot of football knowledge.

Why is Brady Quinn even talking?

People tend to talk when they are being interviewed.
Why is he being interviewed? Why would anyone care what he has to say?

Because a lot has been made of the new QB the Browns drafted and it might be interesting to hear what a former Browns QB has to say? It's not like there are games to talk about this time of year or why it's so offensive or absurd that a QB is getting interviewed on a radio show you didn't even listen to.

He's spot on in his thinking, not necessarily in how he worded it though. As RW is known to say, The separation is in the preparation. While Johnny footballs out partying in vegas, RW when at the same time in his career was studying film, putting in EXTRA work with his WR's. JFF seems to me to be a "just enough" guy, put in "just enough" and in the NFL you do not win as a "just enough" guy.

There use to be a time when athletes were all about being role models. They used their fame to mentor student athletes. But I guess that day is going away slowly.

Quinn actually speaks very well and comes off very well on camera. And he also doesn't really rely on a lot of canned/vanilla material when he contributes on air.

He looks like he's a natural for the studio. His playing career may not have amounted to much. But the guy has an incredibly strong presence on camera.

As for the article, I'm not sure how far I'd take the role model thing. Obviously, being an NFL QB is a great platform for affecting people in a positive way. But if that's not who you are, then it's probably not a good thing to try too hard to be someone you are not.

I would say, he's dead on when he's talking about how it can be perceived in a locker room. If you're an NFL QB, then how you conduct yourself matters. Because there are 52 other guys on the roster, who have their own professional dreams to achieve. The QB's effectiveness is one of the greatest means to achieving team/professional goals. If you aren't taking your career seriously enough -- that has a decaying effect on team morale.

I will say this. Russell Wilson is going to be worth every penny spent on him come next year. He is the kind of superstar you want on your team. He is the kind of person and leader you want in terms of setting the professional standard of the team. There are absolutely no issues related to his protecting and honoring the aspirations of his team mates.

Smelly you are wrong. Roll model for kids IS part of the job description of NFL franchise QB! Your line of thinking is the diffrence between being a QB and being THE QB.

That's true enough, but, when the endorsements don't come knocking, you have nobody to blame but yourself.
