It kind of varies. If the person was a star, let's say like Brady, Lebron James, or Patrick Maholmes, teams won't cut them.
Good point.

I used to be a fleet supervisor for a large food processing company, and we once fired a truck driver because he got a DUI on his personal time and lost his CDL. I wanted to keep him employed, let him go on service calls, wash trucks, etc until he got his CDL back. Yet when a manager, or anyone else for that matter, got a DUI, they wouldn't even lose a day's pay, went to their court appearance on company time and didn't get docked.

Anyhow, you're exactly right.

On the flip side sometimes fan bases embrace murderers. (See: Lewis, Ray Baltimore Ravens)
Or sexual predators (see Ben Rothlisberger) and tax cheats (see Tom Brady). The public can rationalize almost any kind of behavior as long as some other need is satisfied.
