DeeJay took the 11th most punt returns in the NFL last year on a team that was 26th best at forcing punts. I just can't get behind the narrative on DeeJay taking fair catches back there.

Interesting. I wonder where we ranked in terms of effectiveness? Because i cant temmeber the last time our return game did much of anything. Its been years.

I dont get how that math works. Not disagreeing with you at all.

His number basically equates to 11th most fair catches by quantity on this site, tied for 17th.

But his average isnt bad at all. And its only 16 fair catches?

Sticking to my guns though. Maybe the general lack of firepower in the run game is what my mind has translated to fair catches. Sacrificing the big play youd get from an electric player at the position for the guy who wont ever break one, but is guranteed to rarely drop on either.

This.

McIntosh was a rookie who missed a chunk of training camp and spent half of last season on injured reserve.
DeeJay Dallas was a perfectly serviceable RB3/PR/ST who may not make many big plays, but probably won't lose the game for you with a bonehead mistake or blown protection, and he'll get the occasional first down for you as a receiver out of the backfield. I had always hoped for more out of him at RB1/RB2 when pressed into service through injury, but it just wasn't there.

KMac never got reps that I saw that showed what he could do as an NFL RB. Last night was OK, but it's a small sample size and it's preseason.

I'm in the camp with others who think that Pete changed starting around 2015, and over the years became increasingly delusional about his team and the evolution of the game. Then McVay and later KShanahan came in and made Pete their drum.

Great post.

I want to add one of my guesses if I may . I think PC held on to the belief that he could replicate what he did in
2012-2015 (est) with lessor players . He might've been blinded by his own success.

But that SB did him in , no doubt.
I like this. Look, I don’t know where we’re going just yet, but I know where we’ve been. I’m glad Pete is gone; my thoughts are all over this board on that.

We’re going to have some ups and downs with cuts and bruises… it’s like early marriage… I like what I’m seeing out of Mac and the team but I’m hoping this is long term… it’s one thing to get a BJ on your honeymoon… but another to get one unprovoked 10 years in… it’s a commitment and something you can buy into…

I’m intrigued and happy with Mac…as we go and sit. He’s got a lot to clean up.

I hated seeing the Seahawks try to park Bennitt on the p Squad. I could not believe they would be dumb enough to even try. It was such a irrational move, and to top it off they kept 2 kickers far too long. However PC was in USC at the time and JS was at Greenbay. That was the Jim Moran year.
Macantosh was hurt last year so I give that a pass.
Also, PC must have had a part in identifying Macantosh in the first place, and therefore we have him.

That being said, PC did treat certain player differently, and it was part of the problem. Then again, qbs always get special treatment, regardless of team.
There where a lot of players that wanted the shine and didn't like Wilson taking the attention of them.
From what I've gathered through listening to a couple of interviews with former players is that they didn't like the way #3 wasn't held accountable. Wilson also wouldn't let anyone in his hand picked circle of "advisors" and friends . The guys he played with felt disrespected.

Pete Carroll allowed this and then the Superbowl happened.

Deejay was trash...Jamal was trash...dangerwich was babied and coddled...they just kept forcing it. As much as Pete was a god here it was time and overdue. Team was never right after 49.

Pete once again went with loyalty over "best man/always compete" and played Adams when he wasn't injured. He tried this earlier when he started here with Bennett and tried to hide him on the PS but PC learned, if he's going to try that then don't play them at all as teams won't have any tape. Luckily for us Bennett came back to Seattle from Tampa.
Sprfunk already addressed this, but trying to stash Bennett on the practice squad was a Tim Ruskell move. In my opinion, the stupidest thing Ruskell ever did as the Seahawks GM, and that of course includes the Hutch debacle. And it was especially stupid in light of the fact that they, for whatever reason, KEPT TWO FREAKING KICKERS ON THE SQUAD. At least until it mattered, but by then Bennett had been poached by Tampa Bay.

No one remembers Devin Hester's many many returns where he got no yards. They only remember the big plays, and that is all most fans want from a returner. Woe to the consistently average player because there will always be a "dynamic" player that has more potential and someone will always pine for that.

I remember our kicker Josh Brown tackling Devon Hester one game. It was a tremendous source of pride for Brown, and I'm quite sure the Bears never let Hester forget the fact that he was tackled by a kicker.
