Yes, the Seahawks have been lucky, but they have also weathered their share of injuries, especially on defense. We lost our Pro Bowl safety Julian Love for a big stretch of the season. Hankins couldn't go and was lost for the season. In addition to Love, in the secondary, Emmanwori, Witherspoon, Woolen and Bryant all missed games with injuries. At one point, the secondary was so depleted that they signed Quandre Diggs as insurance. Ernest Jones also missed a game or two as did Tyrice Knight. The injuries haven't been as noticeable because the team doesn't seem to miss a beat when someone misses a game.
Also Sundell and Cross for several games. In the past a lot of those injuries in those positions would have sunk us.

The only time it really showed up was the Bucs game.

Michael Shawn Dugar called out that the offense was less explosive once he and Horton went out. Hadn't realized he went out the same time. He really does stretch the field.
Rashid Shaheed should've helped mitigate that loss but the only true impact he's really had was on Special Teams thus far.

The only deep shot I've seen Darnold throw to Shaheed was the one where he underthrew him against the Rams which was knocked away. And since then, nothing.

Sam needs to air it out from time to time even when we're dominating on the ground as we're finally doing.

To me, Shaheed seems to be a TD waiting to happen if Darnold just Moon-Balls it to him.

We probably see it in the play offs if theyve been holding stuff back

MM said in a recent presser they're working on the deep shots... it just hasn't hit yet for one reason or another. Probably because defenses are running dime and nickel, trying to stop JSN and Shaheed deep. These lighter boxes have helped open up the run game.

So while he hasn't directly impacted the explosive passing game, he's indirectly helped with the running game.

I get that.

But there is something to be said for just taking a shot now and then if only to test how "good" their Nickel/Dime defenders really are.

Because with Shaheed, many times I've seen that it doesn't matter who is on him if a ball is thrown deep, he will flat-out outrun the defender for it.

If you listen to Kubiak - he smiles when mentioning the impact Shaheed is having on the run game. Hawkblogger showed some stats about how we are doing in the run game using 11 personsl since the trade and there is a vast improvement

The difference Arroyo makes :

This stat surprised me tbh. It doesn't feel like he had that much effect on the field

Doesn't seem like he did.

I could be wrong but I don't think Arroyo had that many snaps to make that big of a difference. A case of correlation over causation, applying data incorrectly.

Missing Horton and defenses adjusting to take away JSN was the bigger factor in those statistical differences.
Arroyo can be a contributor for sure, but I'm going with this. No way a 15 catch rookie TE is responsible for that discrepancy.

I wonder if Kupp takes a bigger role in the play offs. He's had a limited role so far and part of that might be load management and age to keep him healthy. If this is final play offs though maybe they increase it/unleash him more.

i'm not really sure how they can "unleash him" more. He already plays 95% of snaps, he simply doesnt have the speed for the longer routes, he is more of a 3rd down option on short/intermediate routes where you are relying on a little bit of separation and his hands which are still top quality.

Exactly. That late 3rd down conversion we had at Santa Clara, I would have bet my house on that designed for Cooper in the moment, and welp I was right.

Yeah, kind of like Largent in his later years. Soft hands, and he knows where the sticks are, where the holes in the zones are, and how to meld those things into 1st downs. I could see Kupp getting a few more targets in the playoffs for sure.

Let's hope Sam can spot him and hit him.
