As previewed in a few posts in the regular season, I've been paying close attention to the IR slot management. Now that we are in the post season, we have 2 slots to elevate IR players back to the main roster. Today, we have good news that the Hawks have (as predicted) designated Elijah Arroyo to return to practise.

Seems like the plan is to use 1 of the 2 slots on Arroyo; the other slot can be theoretically be used on Holani, Surratt or Horton (health permitting). I assume what we will do is keep the final slot open for the small possibility that Tory turns a corner during the post season and surprisingly becomes available at the back end. I'd expect Holani to take the 2nd slot at somepoint when its clear Tory can't make it back, as he has lots of use as a change of pace back and on special teams.

We are blessed at this point in the year to be fully healthy on defense (bar Hankins, literally the only def player I can think of that isn't available / Surratt from what we are told will be able to make it back), and on the offensive side we are missing a WR, and some WR depth but that is the sum of it.

I agree as my post makes clear. I think they will keep the 2nd slot open just in case for at least the divisional round though. Will see.

Going into the playoffs and our most important player to have gone on season-ending IR has been possibly our #3 RB (back before the season)? Even if you want to consider Horton, who isn't technically on it, that's a mid-round rookie receiver, who likely would have hit the wall by now anyway. That's some insane injury luck. I can't imagine any team in the league has had it better this year.

It does seem to me (though I could be misremembering) Sam does like to throw to Arroyo much more than Barner (which is odd to me but whatever) when they're on the field together.

Different route trees for both of those guys. Arroyo can stretch the field as more hybrid, having to account for both certainly helps us.

In the same manner that the Rams use Ferguson down field. Using the 13 player scheme i BELIEVE IT'S called, not sure.

I could be wrong but I don't think Arroyo had that many snaps to make that big of a difference. A case of correlation over causation, applying data incorrectly.

Missing Horton and defenses adjusting to take away JSN was the bigger factor in those statistical differences.

Yes, the Seahawks have been lucky, but they have also weathered their share of injuries, especially on defense. We lost our Pro Bowl safety Julian Love for a big stretch of the season. Hankins couldn't go and was lost for the season. In addition to Love, in the secondary, Emmanwori, Witherspoon, Woolen and Bryant all missed games with injuries. At one point, the secondary was so depleted that they signed Quandre Diggs as insurance. Ernest Jones also missed a game or two as did Tyrice Knight. The injuries haven't been as noticeable because the team doesn't seem to miss a beat when someone misses a game.

When the time comes (next year?) it'll be SWEET to have JSN, Shaheed, Horton, Arroyo and Barner as our WR1, WR2 and WR3... and catching TE1 and TE2. That's one great stable of WRs and TEs going forward!

Good points. I had forgotten about some of those injuries.
It appears they actually have the players this year to effectively execute the
"Next Man Up" philosophy.

Michael Shawn Dugar called out that the offense was less explosive once he and Horton went out. Hadn't realized he went out the same time. He really does stretch the field.
