Any Update on Rylie Mills?

I think D. Taylor had a similar circumstance in that Mills will convert to RFA or ERFA due to service time after 4 years if he doesn’t play this year.

So Mills still gets paid on his rookie contract but isn’t a true Unrestricted Free Agent after it expires.

Is that how it works?
According to multiple podcasts (Seahawks forever, Hawks Eye, Hawkblogger have all mentioned it) that is how it works. His contract won't start until next year if he does not get activated his first season.

They are wrong and shouldn’t be spreading misinformation. The team assumes the risk when drafting him. There are no red shirt/rollover seasons.

I think there is a lot of confusion over several aspects of being on the NFI restricted list, which don't apply in this case.

A player's contract continues to run when he's on the NFI list. A team may choose not to pay him, but the contract continues to run. And I'm pretty sure the Seahawks are paying him. (Both spotrac.com and overthecap.com show that he's being paid and the cap hit for 2025.)

The only time the contract of a player on the NFI list tolls is if he's on the last year of his contract, and in that case, the player does not get to be a free agent the next year.

Here's a short explanation from nfl.com that might shed some light on the situation:

From Seahawks.com

Rylie Mills, who has been on the NFI list since the start of camp, the result of the torn ACL he suffered late in his senior season at Notre Dame. Mills is getting close to returning to practice, Macdonald said, but that won't mean immediate game action.
"We think we're getting within a couple weeks now of him starting to practice," Macdonald said. "Now, he's not one of those guys that would be activated then be ready to go; he's going to need some football work. But I think we're getting closer."
This tells me that, while he will be fit enough to practice in the next couple weeks (week 15/16), he's not going to be in football shape. Add another 2-3 weeks to get conditioned and we're running him out for his first NFL snaps in playoff games -- not a recipe for success.

So unless someone gets injured, I wouldn't expect him out there at all. I'm kind of curious as to why they are adding him to the roster at this point, because keeping him on the IR seems to have more advantage at this point.

Scratch all that if they don't like Bohanna or Ivey, then I suppose it's better to try the new guy instead of sticking with someone that you know doesn't work.

As I said in my post - he could be practising as soon as next week and then the team have 3 weeks to let him practise with the team before activating him.
This would enable him to possibly play snaps in the last few games before the playoffs. All depends on is conditioning and overall fitness which we don’t really know. But the messaging has been consistent from the Hawks since drafting him; he could make it back within the year.

Yeah I wouldn't decline any availability as there is always a chance you might need him and regret IRing him

Are we talking bout practice or practise?

That's encouraging. Still no idea of how this will play out for the remainder of the season.
