I had high expectations for Mike morris, especially with his college ties to Mike McDefense but he has never really grabbed a spot

Morris hasn't played that many snaps this year, but I've liked what I've seen from him when he's been in there. He may be a victim of the numbers game, but I'd hate to see him go. He's a unique body at 6' 6" and 295 pounds, and he's still only 24 years old.

I think there is a possibility he could although just depends on how the coaches see him. Might be concentrating fully on defense snaps to make up for all the lost time

I always considered special teams play to be the most dangerous of assignments on a team. They have changed the rules though, to a point it is totally different than it used to be. Regardless, I would much rather risk a hit from a guy two or three yards away than one who has had twenty or more yards to build up speed. So I would limit his action to D Line if it were up to me.

we are all just guessing in the dark at the moment with the IR return situation; you have Sundell, Saubert, Mills, Horton, Young who could all potentially to be able to return in the regular season. Only issue is there are only 4 slots available.
It is possible one of those (most likely Horton due to timing) could be held back to be a post season IR return (and so use up one of the additional 2 slots). The only other players currently in the discussion for those post season 2 IR return slots are Holani and Sauratt [but we don't know their timeframes]

The real question though is what player would need to be released, waived, or put on IR to allow him to be added to the 53 man roster?

Are you sure about this? I've found nothing online from media outlets that Mills wouldn't count against the 8 limit. Obviously makes things easier in that regard for Seattle not having to perform jenga with the roster to the same extent.
EDIT: AI seems to think that he does count against the limit, but obviously taking that with a generous salt serving

Problem (and discussion) is that we may have to use a precious return slot to give him that chance to show what he can do.

Now, if because he was NFI and not IR the add is free, go for it. But if it isn't, it's a tricky question IMO.

So we will have to put someone at risk in order to see if Mills is a player.

But the guy we have to put at risk is also possibly a player.

He may have been great in college but that doesn't mean he is automatically going to be great in the NFL. He is currently unproven. For all we know he could be the next LJ Collier.

You aren't wrong - I think I tend to agree. Id rather not lose a guy to see if Mills is that guy. Easily discovered next TC and Pre-Season.

The only projection I saw for him was 6th round pick pre-draft - https://www.nfl.com/prospects/rylie-mills/32004d49-4c71-8484-5505-140b187be8b2. Of course that was post his injury however you would think if he was all world he would still be projected higher. I admit I didn't see him play much. He does have great measurables, but we've seen many with great physical attritubes underwhelm when it came to playing in the NFL.

I could live with that. Give him his redshirt year. Return calls from IR are getting tight and there seems to me to be a couple of players that would be better used than him.

I think many have this view. For me, I want him on the roster purely for having a game winning play in the 4th quarter in a tight game when we need it on the final drive. He would be a genuine threat to do this and i acknowledge the other side of the argument, including losing a quality depth player from the roster (most likely Mike Morris), that is the cost. On the IR juggling I think the impact would be welcoming back Horton for the playoffs as opposed to week 16, or not bringing back Saubert / Young. Last think to mention is that the defensive coaching staff from everything I've seen absolutely love him. There is the story that AD essentially told John he wouldn't come to work on Monday if they didn't draft Rylie.

Sounds like they still have 2 weeks to activate him if needed despite him practicing fully. Anyone could get injured during that time especially in a short week.

If they have just until Saturday, then I'd just redshirt him for the rest of the year and have him come back with a full training camp starting from the ground up instead of coming in smack in the middle of a division (and conference) chase.
