I am excited to see the impact that Rylie Mills will have on our DL. If he and Jarran Reed are back for the end of our season we will be even more of a force.

Does anyone have information about the progress of his rehabilitation?

From Seahawks.com

Rylie Mills, who has been on the NFI list since the start of camp, the result of the torn ACL he suffered late in his senior season at Notre Dame. Mills is getting close to returning to practice, Macdonald said, but that won't mean immediate game action.
"We think we're getting within a couple weeks now of him starting to practice," Macdonald said. "Now, he's not one of those guys that would be activated then be ready to go; he's going to need some football work. But I think we're getting closer."

Even if Mills plays this year, I'm not expecting any significant impact or any impactful snap counts from him this year.. He has a quality skillset, yes. But, even the elite rookie D-linemen have troubles making impacts their rookie seasons..

I have the opposite take from listening to Mike… the plan all along was for Rylie to be game ready by the end of the year which is where the recovery is looking like it’s going.
He is a luxury pass rushing piece who would be used sparingly in obvious passing situations. I think we see him get limited snaps in the last few games and possibly a slightly more visible role in the playoffs.
He could well be returning to training next week and then 3 weeks of practise before being called up to the roster

Rylie Mills suffered an ACL injury in his last game for Notre Dame last December. So it's unlikely he'll be able to contribute this year.

Even before his injury, Mills was projected to be a 3rd-round pick at best, so he's not someone we are going to rely on to tear it up immediately.

But he's definitely a player who was productive in college, and is an impressive physical specimen at 6' 5" 290 lbs and good speed for a defensive lineman.

If he doesn't get activated this season then this will be a red shirt year and we still have 4 years on his rookie contract. I say hold him out all year unless we absolutely have to activate him.
I don't think that's how it works. Mills signed his rookie deal after the draft, and he's getting paid this season to rehab while on the Reserve/NFI list. There is no "red shirt" and his rookie deal still expires after 2028.

Seems like the best we can hope for is he gets a practice window opened so he can do some on-field work, but doubtful we see him this year.

They actually do that?
I had no idea a player loses a year of service time if he doesn't play in said year.
I'm happy to hear it if so.

I think so because it's classed as a non football injury as it didn't happen in the NFL. I think if he had got hurt in an nfl game it wouldn't/

Do we have a solid answer?
I know what you're thinking but I'd like confirmation somehow.

I'm sure that Rylie Mills is getting paid under his rookie contract. The Seahawks could have chosen to not pay him since he is injured, but then, Mills would not have signed with Seahawks. He could have sat out the year, and just re-entered the draft next year and he would have most likely been drafted higher once healthy.

The Seahawks chose to draft him this year, knowing that they were getting a bargain, using a fifth-round pick on a player who would otherwise have gone as high as the third round. Mills had a productive season and was Notre Dame captain and second team All-American last year.
