I thought he was reinstated but it does not appear he is on any roster yet including ours. I thought we’d have the inside track. Don’t need him?

I think we need other positions much more but just curious what’s happening with him.

Clayton said this morning that he expects Gordon to be on the Hawks practice squad next week.

This can't be true, the practice squad would leave him unprotected and vulnerable to being signed by another team. :stirthepot:

Yep, just passing on what he said. I think he'll be a Hawk w/in 2 weeks. Just a guess.

Being a free agent exposes him to every team as well... He'll go to the practice squad to get him in game shape before using a roster spot on him. Standard procedure in today's NFL.

But he doesn't have to sign with another team, regardless their interest, does he?

Not until he is on a Practice Squad, then he can be claimed, he has to be put on that teams active roster, but then he can be dropped I think aftyer a period of time and or cut and we would have to resign after he passes through waivers then.

Unprotected PS players are still FAs. They can sign with other teams. They're also free to decline other teams' offers. The likelihood is that some veterans insist on being unprotected as a condition of PS signing. That would be the case for someone like Le'Veon Bell rather than Gordon. In 2020 Gordon wasn't allowed to play in the NFL for a full year after his previous indefinite suspension. The reason for his non-return in 2020 was described as a 'setback'. This hasn't been fully explained but likely it means another failed test. If so the NFL may not clear Gordon for a full year after that setback. Personally I don't expect Gordon to be cleared until Week 15.
