Just learned that the Seahawks have the youngest O line in the NFL.
Perhaps they want to give them better coaching and believe they can get better.
Still think a center or guard should be signed though.

The teams active on day 1 of FAcy are the teams I hope the Seahawks do not copy. The teams that avoid the hype (and overpayment) are the teams I hope the Seahawks emulate.

JS has been skewered here for paying big for FAs, some coming off injury. He's also been hammered for signing LWilliams and EJones without longterm contracts. He got ripped for giving Geno a contract, for bringing in Howell, for letting Lock go....

However, little credit for very reasonable extensions for LW and EJ. (Is there a reality where those situations could work out better?) I haven't seen much credit to JS for trading Geno from those that complained for 2 seasons...just a switch to complaints about Guard. OK, that's cool. It really doesn't bug me personally, but I think JS has been killing it for 2 seasons. With Geno and DK leaving and new OC, it wouldn't be a surprise if the team took an extra year to see the O gel. Take that time to let young OL compete and unify. ...and 5 high pics, 10 overall, probably more with his trade backs, I see a high liklihood of a bright future.

I've got my shades by the couch, ready to watch the draft.

Say what? Most fans were ecstatic about the Big Cat and E. Jones extensions. And more people than not were good with the two trades in the first place and some were leary of giving up the draft capital which is also understandable on any trade. No need to make up some narratives to make some kind of point.

So, maybe avoiding the best free agents was a JS issue instead of PC issue. Certainly a disappointment so far but it might be the height of the offseason if he does his normal draft stupidity.
The last Seahawk on my - get the idiot off the team list: John Schneider - the conductor of the train to nowhere.

That is true which is why it is important to bring a vet to anchor the interior line or find a high draft prospect that is A level talent to go with the B and C level talent on the interior.

So is the prevailing wisdom here that we should have matched Minnesota's offer? 5 years is longer than Fries's entire career. And, while he showed promise in year 3, he broke his leg in week 5 last year and didn't even return once it was healed. That seems risky.

Also, Minny made him the 6th highest paid RG in the league. Do you want to carry that contract if he doesn't regain form?

I'd rather pick up Becton. Similar history but his injury was 3 seasons ago and he's shown to be fully recovered. Also, he can play RT, so he would be insurance for Lucas in case Abe doesn't regain form.
Nice to see someone using reason and logic instead of their own emotions to evaluate the Fries situation.

I'm happy to admit if I'm wrong, but I didn't see a lot of credit directed at JS. My point was that he orchestrated it and people were ecstatic, as you pointed out, but I didn't notice many pats on his back. Sorry if I missed the -JS is great- thread, my bad.

Y’all really ran with this one. I am simply disappointed we haven’t addressed the line with any conviction. Waiting until the draft forces us into a certain avenue we don’t want to be forced into. Ideally we’d not reach in round 1 or 2. If we don’t have multiple needs we could really kill this draft.

Ok. I get where you're coming from. Yeah, doubt many actually say those things about JS. But if they are applauding a move he makes then they are applauding him whether they know it, or want to admit it, or not in my book.

We needed the best OLman money could buy to set a tone for our young OL which is only going to get younger after the draft. We've failed so far. There's not much arguing that.

I agree with all that except Schneider's job being on the line. The Seahawks have been one of the premier franchises in all of sports since he got here. It's going to take a string of losing seasons and salary cap hell to get him fired.
Carroll didn’t think he would get fired

I really wanted OG James Daniels myself. Dude can move people off the line. That's what we've been lacking. Got really old being shut down time and time again on 3rd and short running the ball last season.

Come on guys, give our Schneider Line a chance already, ok, another chance. John put his heart and soul into designing this line, invested draft capital too.

One more year, ok?

You just named the two stats that you're repeatedly clinging to. There's also 4,000 yards passing and a 70% comp rate.
You’re seriously using total yards as a key stat for QB success? Did you know these two stats you list are two of the lowest correlated for success for a QB? How many yards did Sam Howell throw for in Washington? Any guesses? Right at 4,000 yards so yeah you got me there I guess.

I wanted Fries too but he isn’t the lock some think he is. There are still guys and a great draft class to draw from for IOL.

Yeah I think those upset about Fries should use that energy to review some of the talent in this draft we have 10 picks in. Good players to be had!

So they brought in a ”pressure sensitive” QB, have the worst O-line in the league and have done absolutely nothing to build a better one. Yeah, no rookies can fix this, so the draft will not be the answer.
