If Darnold happens to achieve these stats while playing football that is generally as fundamentally sound as Geno did, I will be here defending Darnold against the box score stat jockeys and will be similarly annoyed with the team for failing to support the quarterback.

NFL football is about supporting the quarterback.
Box score stats are still important regardless of what a couple of twitter guys say. You can’t just throw away things like TD/ints, passer rating etc.

The league literally proved this with what they valued Geno at.

And they proved my point by showing what they valued Darnold at (which is lower than Geno), so...

This is what I'm starting to believe, and Viens also mentioned that it was years and not the amount that we wouldn't match.

I'm so beyond out on Jody and this weird post-Paul Vulcan ownership. Get me a new owner. I'm convinced we're not building a winner or an organization of repute with this one.
Yeah it’s a bummer that they have this approach. Appears to cost them dearly here. I want her to sell the team even though I do think we’re building something cool with Macdonald.

Darnold had a better season than Geno, so.....
Right but Darnold was in a better situation with supporting pieces around him, including a 9th ranked o-line and top-tier play caller. Geno didn't have that. He had Grubb and Waldron. Both are currently unemployed by the NFL.

If this is a true statement from whoever Viens is quoting while we sit pretty on 62 mil of cap room...

Good god.

Grain of salt and all that, but I'd be livid. And I've been vastly more patient than most when it comes to JS and the offensive line.

Unless, of course, ownership is balking at spending money...

That’s absolutely crazy if true.

Darnold is the most wronged QB in this off season- next to Wilson, that is. Darnold played like a dream in 2024, yet the Vikings let him go; the Raiders, Steelers, Giants, Jets, the Titans all passed on him. He had to take a low baller from Schneider.

Where's the football-God? Why didn't thy love Darnold? His hair color?

So is the prevailing wisdom here that we should have matched Minnesota's offer? 5 years is longer than Fries's entire career. And, while he showed promise in year 3, he broke his leg in week 5 last year and didn't even return once it was healed. That seems risky.

Also, Minny made him the 6th highest paid RG in the league. Do you want to carry that contract if he doesn't regain form?

I'd rather pick up Becton. Similar history but his injury was 3 seasons ago and he's shown to be fully recovered. Also, he can play RT, so he would be insurance for Lucas in case Abe doesn't regain form.

It’s always some kind of contract matching or not matching instance with Minnesota….

Lol.

Minnesota threw the bag at Fries. And maybe Fries will do great for Minnesota and maybe not. Fries is coming off of an injury so maybe Seattle is right for now not to land Fries. We won’t know until this upcoming season happens and or until the probably the 3-4 years with Fries plays out with Minnesota.

Seattle could have missed out again. Or, have dodged a bullet.

The draft is pretty much I assume Seattle and Schneider will largely concentrate on.

Let’s see how this plays out.

Schneider’s job is on the line and we shall see if he makes the right moves from here.

You just named the two stats that you're repeatedly clinging to. There's also 4,000 yards passing and a 70% comp rate.

I agree with all that except Schneider's job being on the line. The Seahawks have been one of the premier franchises in all of sports since he got here. It's going to take a string of losing seasons and salary cap hell to get him fired.

Ya the people that say Schneider has anything on the line I don’t know what’s different for John this year than any other

Waldron is the Jaguars' passing game coordinator.

The teams active on day 1 of FAcy are the teams I hope the Seahawks do not copy. The teams that avoid the hype (and overpayment) are the teams I hope the Seahawks emulate.

JS has been skewered here for paying big for FAs, some coming off injury. He's also been hammered for signing LWilliams and EJones without longterm contracts. He got ripped for giving Geno a contract, for bringing in Howell, for letting Lock go....

However, little credit for very reasonable extensions for LW and EJ. (Is there a reality where those situations could work out better?) I haven't seen much credit to JS for trading Geno from those that complained for 2 seasons...just a switch to complaints about Guard. OK, that's cool. It really doesn't bug me personally, but I think JS has been killing it for 2 seasons. With Geno and DK leaving and new OC, it wouldn't be a surprise if the team took an extra year to see the O gel. Take that time to let young OL compete and unify. ...and 5 high pics, 10 overall, probably more with his trade backs, I see a high liklihood of a bright future.

I've got my shades by the couch, ready to watch the draft.

Well Minni may have been setting us up to spend big and deplete our cap for their own reasons, getting Darnold here kind of put them in a bind. I didn't want the reverse poison pill happening. We will be ok, first days signings are always over the top, we did good with what we have done so far.
