We have seen examples of analytic presentations that garnered attention and provided some insight into the performance, outcomes and tendencies of game officials. Last season, the Saints monitored the distance traveled by every player in practice and the distance traveled at certain speeds -- in part to study how that relates to injuries. Payton told a funny story of how offensive tackle Zach Strief told him offensive linemen would walk in circles during warmups because, "We're just trying to make sure our numbers aren't low."
