Seahawks activated a 5th year option in the case of Witherspoon ...... effectively thru 2027. Anticipate a multi year second contract to follow sometime in 2026.

Of more interest to me, is the pricing of second contract extensions for "rotational players". We recently saw the loss of Boye Mafe and Kenneth Walker. Derick Hall is a forth year rotational player who could continue to emerge and be considered for extension as a core player. Given Mike Macdonald's desire to play everyone on the roster, extending rotational and part time players will be a demanding pricing challenge for John Schneider and his cap specialists.

It's an interesting background story being written for 2026.

The off season has been at best a wash so far. Whatever was lost in Free Agency, was gained back in the draft. However we knew we had Superbowl caliber players, but we don't know if these rookies are at that level...but it seems close.

That being said, the question of "Did we get better" this off season will be determined by how that $29 million is spent.

Everyone wants an Edge and that would be fun, but another real threat at WR would freakishly open up this offense

And what WR out there (that's available either by Free Agency or Trade) is feasible to go after?

Dallas only has 5 draft picks next year. It would be spendy but George Pickens would fit in the budget. 1400+ yards and 9 TDs last year.

That's pretty much the ceiling

Didn't Pickens sign his Franchise Tag deal or something?

First things first, we must sign Bobo to secure his service: no Bobo, no more Super Bowls.

H*ll no. We don’t need no Diva’s on this roster.

I thought the Niners were in cap hell or at least on their way
They are, (kinda-sorta). Effective cap space isn't a good indicator of where a team is cap-wise. The Eagles are the most obvious and extreme example of this. They have already spent $200M+ of future years' cap money to fund their previous and current year's teams. If they trade AJ Brown before June 1st it would accelerate $27M of future dead money into the 2026 cap calculation. AJ Brown is due to earn $29M in 2026 but only about $7M of that is scheduled to be accounted for in 2026. His expected delayed trade to the Patriots would thus increase 2026 cap space by $7M but their future cap debt leaves them very limited in what they can or can't do.

Unless Milroe comes alive, Darnold is getting paid next year. Even if we cut him, he still costs 19.2 mil against the cap. That’s about 20.7 million in 2026 dollars (accounting for the likely magnitude of the cap increase)

I’m not saying it would be a good idea to try to save on cap to use for next year, just that if we don’t find something worth spending it on, we will definitely spend it next year.
