Didn't our passing game take a step back after Shahid joined the team, though?
On the other hand, I heard comments that our run game improved as it forced teams to keep safeties back to account for Shaheed blowing by them.

Hence the chess match. Is Shaheed in, cover two. Is Shaheed out, cover one. But who is gonna cover Barner?

I'm a huge Horton fan and he showed some promise before getting hurt. I do think they will hedge their bets with the injury as you never know although I fully expect Horton to be a stud next year. I think Shaheed might be a little lower down the priority list next year.

And don't forget Arroyo, I really think he takes another step next year. Heck after typing that maybe we have a little Patriots offense when they had Gronk and Hernandez. Not saying our guys are those two but they don't need to be with JSN, Horton etc. Interested in how this plays out!

If that's so, then the need for a replacement should raise in priority.

Daniel Jeremiah also thinking Shaheed will be hard to get back, FWIW.
“Unless (Shaheed) just so values the winning component that you can get him without going to the top, top, top of the market, I think he’s going to have big offers elsewhere,” Jeremiah said. “And knowing the JSN price tag is coming, I think that one will be the most difficult to get done, even though he might stack up higher on the priority list.”

Meh. I'm hoping for the bolded but we'll see what happens....

I wonder if they try restructure Kupp in a bid to keep Shaheed? If we cut him we save 9 million. Thats a lot of cap space.

Good chance Nwosu is cut as well to create cap space or extending Darnold.

Darnold is under contract for three years, there is no rush unless he agrees to defer some bonus payments.

Yeah im not worried about that aspect, just opening up extra cap room if needed. I think Leonard Williams is the other we can do that with.

I'm not going to go through the exact schedule and timelines. Seahawks fans will know those details better than me. I remember the schedule being fairly easy at the start of the season and everyone, (other than Horton), being healthy. Later on Kupp, Arroyo, & Sundell missed games and the schedule got tougher.

I think he's going to take that next step up. Nwosu's contract isn't that long and Demarcus is a little older.
Mafe is the ultimate “this is the year,” guy. He won’t ever be anymore than an average DE imho

I expect that Mafe will test the market and will be offered more than John is willing to pay.

Rather than overpaying for Mafe, I'd prefer that Chenna be extended a couple of years, which would open the door to lower his 2026 cap hit from $20M to more like $15M... and likely, by adding a couple of VOID years.

That's the thing. I think Chenna is going be more expensive while being a little older with some injury history. It is a game of projecting future production and I'm confident that JS will navigate this issue successfully, but Mafe seems a more sure option. I would priorize him over Chenna. Keep em all if the deals make sense.
