Meh. I'm thinking we're going to see a lot of 3 wide, 1 back, 1 TE or 2 back, 2 wide and 1 TE this year anyway.

Luke looks good so far, but I can't imagine he'll get a bunch of snaps either way.

How many NFL snaps have you seen Wilson take to form that opinion? I'd sign Shaincoe if I thought there may be an issue with depth. Or wait until other teams make cuts and scoop up a stud like Evan Moore turned out to be last year.

Zero. But the front office has earned enough points with me that when they make a statement like "Luke Wilson is one of the players we felt like we absolutely had to come out of the draft with" I'm willing willing to run with it.

Of the FA available, I'd be happy taking a chance on best blocker for league minimum....but, in FO we trust, so whatever. I'll get off the TE bandwagon. Maybe Bowie can play TE

if guys don't pan out like Willson and Fells, then David Thomas is the next best option. Of the players on the list he's the only one who hasn't proven he can't do it, yet.

You guys are forgetting we need to rollover our extra cap money for next year. We're not signing any 2nd string TE we're going to roll with what we have as we should. There is a reason why the Harvin signing was beyond huge and this is just a tiny facet of it.

Pete is going to roll with the stable he has (imho). The young guys are going to be used and Pete will figure out the best way to utilize their talents.

I think he prides himself in being able to let younger guys find their own path, and have them mix into the game plan. Pete comes off as a guy that if you demonstrate your value more than another guy, you'll more than likely get the nod over someone else pretty quickly (example - JR Sweezy). Also think about how he'll gameplan using a guy a lot, and if it doesn't work he's not affraid to pull the plug (example - Owens, Moore, etc).

Zack Miller is gonna have a breakout season. Percy Harvin's arrival will slightly reduce the amount of multi-TE pass formations.
Sean McGrath is solid. We'll see how Willson plays, but he'll likely start as our 3rd TE and emerge more later in the season.

I have no concerns (barring injuries).

If our offensive line makes strides in pass protection, which they should but nothing's given, I see Miller being the biggest beneficiary of the Harvin addition. Lot of talk about whether there's room for targets for both Tate and Baldwin in the passing game. I definitely think that one of the two of them will certainly suffer, but mostly because Zack Miller has a chance to emerge as a borderline probowler this season.

What kind o stinkin thinkin is this? Wife beatin' Stevens or Winslug coming back around for another go? Bah. If we're that desperate maybe Fat Rabbit can play TE...

Personally, I like the idea of Percy Harvin being on the field at all times, rather than McCoy, (McGrath, Evan Moore, Helfet) at any time. If Percy's not in the slot, and lined up by himself at RB instead, (say on third down and 4 or 5), run deep out or midrange crossing routes with Rice & Golden, while Luke Willson & Zach Miller go straight up both the seams to threaten the over the top of the safety pass to the TE pass catchers simultaneously. Then screen to Harvin all day... cuz its one isolated LB to beat 1 on 1, and a whole lot o green...

If ya straight want an extra nasty blocker, just put in an extra tackle like Bowie, and make sure he checks in with the ref as at least as "eligible" to catch a pass.

C'est la vie.

When all is said and done it'll be (1) Miller, (2) Willson, (3) McGrath.

5 years ago, that would have been a heck of a TE free agent class.

Haha, my sentiments exactly. Shows how fast a guy can decline.

No doubt. Let the best of the camp fodder be our #2 TE. IIRC Helfet & McGrath looked really good last year and lots of people were chirping for them to make the team. Willson's probably a given, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those two make it.

Fells could be an X-factor, but I doubt it. He looks like a freak athleate, but I don't really see him just "picking up" pro football at 27 after last playing in High School...

All you need is a HS football backgroad to know the NFL inside and out. Just ask Cboom.
