I've been enjoying my 2024 Seahawks trivia desk calendar and today's trivia made me smile:

Who caught more passes in a single season than any other non-wide receiver in Seahawks' history?
(answer below)

John L. Williams with 76 receptions in 1989.

That got me thinking about the underrated and disappearing position of fullback. John L. was the first I remember as a kid. Of course Mack Strong, a Seahawks legend. Then I started remembering the Leonard Weaver stiff-arm and then there was THIS guy:

Love me some full back. Too bad they're getting phased out.

Out of curiosity, I took a look at the list after I saw the answer. Here's the top 10 single-season receptions leaders among non-WRs, with their overall ranking including WRs in parenthesis:

1. John L Williams (1989) - 76 (18th)
2. John L Williams (1992) - 74 (T22nd)
3. John L Williams (1990) - 73 (T24th)
4. Jimmy Graham (2016) - 65 (T39th)
5. Ricky Watters (2000) - 63 (T45th)
6. John L Williams (1991) - 61 (53rd)
7. Shaun Alexander (2002) - 59 (54th)
T8. John L Williams (1988) - 58 (T55th)
T8. John L Williams (1993) - 58 (T55th)
10. Jimmy Graham (2017) - 57 (T61st)

John L. was one of my all-time favorites. Always loved when he had the ball in his hands.

I guess before I scrolled down. I remember this great player well. He was also a blocking machine.

I can't imagine there's a franchise that can boast a better 1-2 FB combination than Mack Strong and John L. Williams.

John L. immediately came to mind, glad I was correct. That screen pass over the middle to John L. was always lethal, man he was fun to watch play.

Btw, is that a young Mike Shanahan you see on the sidelines coaching the Raiders?

Kenneth Walker III has 30 receptions over the 7 games he has played in 2024. He's got a shot at adding his name to that top 10 list.
