I'm not gonna pull a jerry jones and jizz all over the team and say we are winning it all. I think we will win it eventually with RW but has there ever been a pro Seattle team with expectations like this? Dangerous territory. Though if it does happen it will make it that much sweeter.

High expectations? How about the mid-90s Sonics? Payton and Kemp were awesome. They toyed with lesser teams ... Payton would get a steal, wheel down the court with Kemp leading and alley-oop it to Kemp for some sort of ridiculous jam. Those were some great times, man. Kevin Calabro was so fun to listen to on the broadcasts.

Unfortunately, they failed to take advantage of MJ's absence (two years? three?) and when they did finally make it to the finals, they couldn't quite get it done against MJ's Bulls.

But the expectations were high, no doubt. They had FIVE consecutive seasons that were equivalent to 11- or 12-win NFL seasons.

That make me feel sad inside.
I'm going to go watch a Joe Montana tape and have some ice cream.

6 reasons seahawks wont win the superbowl. Not trolling, just putting things into perspective. I'm not a big fan of all the hype the Seahawks have been getting. EVERYONE thinks we are winning the superbowl this year. I'm excited for the season dont get me wrong but fans are jumping the gun a little bit. I was at taco time today and the dude who took my order saw my seahawks hat and said he can't wait for them to win the superbowl this year. I was like... i hope so man...anyways. here we go:

1. they don't lock up the 1 seed, forced to play on the road and end up losing
2. slightly above average or maybe even average receiving core doesn't get the job done
3. injuries (it's always a possibility)
4. mental toughness isn't there
5. lack of maturity
6. secondary gets tired and worn down from an elite passing team such as ATL again

Honestly that list was kind of hard to come up with. We are a good team. But I'm not penciling in the Lombardi yet

How are fans "jumping the gun" here? The Seahawks are set up to be not only good, but GREAT. They didn't come out of nowhere and surprise anyone with the slightest knowledge of football. They have progressively gotten better and are now ready to cross that threshold that has eluded them for so many years. Enjoy this as a Seahawk fan. This type of team doesn't come around very often.

Don't be afraid of greatness.

Is anyone else mildly embarrassed by all this super bowl talk? I mean we haven't even played the first game of the season and people are just skipping ahead and being like, Which Seahawk will win the Superbowl MVP? Let's keep it in perspective, people.

Why is it dangerous territory? What is so dangerous about high expectations? Sweet is just knowing that shit is going to happen, not being surprised by success. Be disappointed when it is time for that. But being all lubed up for disappointment to screw you good? Where is the fun in that?

It's dangerous territory because for one, you're already making a 1 out of 32 chance of it happening prediction (actually 1/30 because jets and raiders lol). 2, you're going to make the impact of what will happen if your prediction doesn't happen that much more annoying. Seahawk fans will flip out and cry forever if we get bounced in the 2nd round or NFC championship or something. I already know the dealio with that. 3, it's kinda lame because every fan of potential playoff teams say that. Kids also say it a lot.

Idk bro I guess I'm a fan that doesn't make predictions. So much can happen throughout the year.
Everybody is different, I guess. Some people say "wake me when we get there". I don't want to miss a thing, even when the scenery sucks. I am one of those annoying people who thinks agony is part of the sweetest victories. Being wrong doesn't bother me, but not caring kills me. What seems like an age ago we had a team that didn't seem to care. A lost and clueless coach begging for just one dirtbag to step up. Now we have a team that lays it on the line even in meaningless week 17 games. Win or lose, that feels damn good.

Look on the bright side, we more than likely get to feel this optimistic excitement this time of year for about the next 10 to 15 years.

They left out one of the biggest reasons "the 12th man". Hello!!! No team has the type of home field we have. We have actually won games due to the noise.

Yeah, I won't begrudge anyone their feelings of being "sensible and safe", but shying away from the spotlight this team has found is not necessary. It's bogus reverse psychology superstition. It reminds me of 4th grade when the teacher would hand back our tests. I played a little game in my head; I pretended to hope I'd get an "F" because then when I got an "A" (what I really thought I deserved) it felt that much more important.

My silly mind game had as much impact on the test I had already taken as fan expectations do with the Seahawks' performance on game days. There's no reason for anxiety. None. Having our favorite team in the championship conversation is just more reason to sit back, relax, and truly enjoy the show.

As for winning the ultimate game of the season, we want it to happen, we hope it happens, we'll feel elated beyond belief if it happens. But the same way the coaches and players do it one game at a time, I'm determined to enjoy each and every step along the way. However it ends, I'll be able to look back on an entire season of fun. If that fun is commemorated with the Lombardi in the Seahawks' trophy case, all the better. :snack:

Well said.
4 years ago, the Hawks were reeling. I had blocked out the afternoon to watch my team, knowing the liklihood of them getting their ass kicked was high. It wasn't long before they were behind. So I rewound the DVR, and watched individual players jog when they should run. I saw receivers make business decisions. An old finesse team had pretty much quit. THe only way that squad could make the playoffs was to play the Rams 14 times.

I took a bike ride. Hope was dead. Ruskell and Mora ran over my dog.

This is way better.

The best part of it all is...we are now the bully. That old, soft, finesse, small team? It's been blown apart and buried in Marianas Trench.

This team is fun to watch, every week.

Can't wait for the ninnies trolls spin on this. Should be some entertaining reading!

If your teams stays health and their heads can fit in their helmets, the Hawks have just as good a chance as anyone else.

That's an odd way of looking at it, a lot of people lower their expectations to avoid disappointment at the end, if you go about thinking you got an A and get a C you'd be devastated, whereas if you thought you got an F and got a C you'd be elated. It's about perception.

That said, I don't think it applies to sports simply because it's supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT. If Seattle doesn't win the Superbowl it doesn't mean you won't be able to go to the college you wanted to or get the job you wanted to. It just means you have to sit and wait another year and hope they do it then.

If Seattle won the Superbowl this year and you'd been quietly anxious about each game it's be a pleasant surprise and obviously extremely gratifying. But that's nothing compared to the building feeling of optimism throughout the season as you win each game and get closer and closer to what you believe destiny to be.
Yeah when it gets to the Falcons game and you go out in the closest of circumstances it's a bit disappointing, but it sure beats watching the game thinking "we're probably going to lose this"

No. Because I'm sure the measured approach has more to do with people who'd rather end be mildly disappointed rather than dream big. However, for the people who are going to fall off the bandwagon at the first loss, then maybe we can talk about one game at a time.
