Sources: 49ers called on Justin Jefferson trade before draft

The 49ers checked in on Justin Jefferson's availability before the NFL draft, but the Vikings had zero interest in trading the star WR, sources told ESPN.

Luckily, Vikings came to their senses.

Of course the 49ers are arrogant enough that they think they can rip off another team for the best receiver in football.

I would rather have Justin Jefferson at $140 million/4 years than Brandon Aiyuk at $120 million/4 years. That's probably what the 49ers thought. But I'm sure the Vikings felt the same way.

Reports now say that the 49ers were willing to trade Aiyuk for a 2nd and a 3rd, as long as they could get a workable reciever in the trade. The reports say they would have settled for Jakobi Meyers or Courtland Sutton.

49ers tried for blockbuster three-way Brandon Aiyuk trade before massive contract extension

Brandon Aiyuk nearly had a new team for 2024.

None of this is going to make Aiyuk very happy.

A top shelf receiver can elevate an average QB to the next level. Maybe that's part of the reason why the Vikes were willing to let Cousins go.

They also have a Madden GM.

They're the freakin' Dodgers of the NFL, they think they can just have it all.
