Looking at our 2022 draft picks eligible for extensions, who we keeping off this list after the coming season ?
-Cross
-Bryant
-Mafe
-Lucas
-Walker

To me Walker,Lucas,Mafe are done here. I think Woolen, Cross and Bryant all get new deals

Why would you think that? Walker and Lucas are not going to demand premium contracts because of their injury histories. And Mafe is our best OLB since Nwosu can't stay healthy.

Who knows where our roster will be in a couple years, but unless we get players that can take those starting jobs, we should be trying to resign all of those guys.

I can honestly see us extending all of them. All add value to this team, and all have yet to reach their peak.

not a chance in hell we let Mafe walk.
I mean, it's not like we're going to franchise tag him unless he goes insane next season. We could offer an extension big enough to tempt Mafe from what he could potentially be looking at by testing free agency, but I don't know how smart that would be. For either side.

I'm not sure what I think of him going forward. Two years in a row he has started the season looking like he was on the periphery of breaking into the top tiers of NFL pass rushers, only to go completely AWOL over the second half of the season.

I can see a case for none and I can see a case for all. Which ones are you thinking?
Cross - You would need to invest another pick on a LT if you don’t extend Cross. Definitely don’t pay him top dollar. Make it reasonable. Cross is like anywhere from the 8-12th best LT in the NFC.

Bryant - Really played well under Mac. Keep him for a decent amount of change.

Woolen - I believe Woolen can improve more under Mac. Not top dollar CB. Don’t pay him top 8 CB money.

Everyone else, can probably be let go.

Mafe became a really good run defender this season. His pass rushing didn't grow any though. He also played 200 less snaps this season. Sometimes I wonder if they focused on stopping the run more considering the big issue that it was. I don't know if that's a thing though. Some of the best edge rushers are also good run defenders so idk.

I don't see a big contract yet for him, but at the same time I'd hate to see them give up on him to early and watch him put up some bigger numbers for some other team. I think you wait and see what he does for a half a season or so before you decide.

Better to sign Mafe to a modest $$ deal now than wait and him be able to command huge $$$
Mafe would probably prefer that part where he's "able to command huge $$$". As would his agent, who would probably shoot his client, who plays a highly-paid, in-demand position, if he signed a modest deal a year before he's set to hit free agency.

It's pretty risky paying these guys early because you need to make it worth it for them to forgo the free agent wine & dine and potentially huge second contract they've been dreaming about since they were drafted. However, the team that has, by far, most prioritized getting their players locked up early just obliterated the two-time defending champions in the Super Bowl last night and look primed for a sustained run of success.

I think Cross, Bryant, and probably even Lucas are guys I'd be willing to take the gamble on.

Mafe - Early season Mafe is worth a considerable commitment, but his late season disappearing acts are concerning.

Woolen - I guess I'd defer to those who know his personality and work habits much better than I do, but personally, I'd be very concerned that Woolen would be the kind of guy to coast after getting paid.

Walker - I'm in an ever-decreasing minority that is still very high on him, but he really needs to prove he can stay healthy for more than ten minutes at a time, and even still, giving second contracts to RBs has been such an overwhelmingly poor decision around the league as a whole. Those contracts have dropped though, so they aren't as damaging as they used to be if the player regresses. Also, I suspect that if Walker stayed healthy for a season, he'd be more than worth the franchise tag number if we need it for a year.

Supposed to be a pretty deep running back class this year. Might be some Day 3 guys to be had. Besides, we still have Charbs and McIntosh. I don't know if Walker is such a priority.

If only Mafe could play an entire season...he was Mia for a lot of it down the stretch. Done with Woolen...he just doesn't give ashit out there..too much quit.

Out of all of those guys, Woolen is the one without any heart. I would let him go before the others.
