Wasn't sure where to put this. It's an MLS Specific rumor but could have pretty big implications.

Rumor is that the league is being pressured by its TV Networks (who just spent 750 million on the league) to increase the salary cap. The Salary cap right now is under $3Million...

The rumor i have been seeing is the cap set at $10Million, and DP's would have to make more than 800k. That would mean players like Alonso, Rosales and others would not be DP's.

$10 Million plus DP's would put MLS in solid range for best league in CONCACAF being able to compete with Liga MX's wages with the exception of clubs like Cruz Azul, Chivas Guadalejara, and Club America.

Could the MLS jump to playing with truly big boy money? Is this too much, too fast? Shades of NASL failure a threat?

A sizable increase to the salary cap was a given with the big new TV contract MLS signed. I expected something more along the lines of a doubling of the cap the first year, though, not $3 million to $10 million. Given the fact that these new expansion teams are paying $100+ million entry fees, this league is not hurting for money right now. The single-entity model of MLS will also help prevent an NASL-style monetary flameout.

The biggest issue the MLS faces is quality product. When the NASL crashed it was trying to compete with the world leagues in salary at a time when US couldn't really watch European leagues

Now the MLS is trying to blanket the nation with the game at its absolute peak across the globe. Sound strategy. However, they need to realize that the product pales in comparison to the big 4 (in entertainment value not just player quality).

They need to be careful in extending player salaries beyond the means the league can sustain consistent interest and growth.

The game is huge right now so it makes sense to try and strike that iron while its hot. The MLS just needs to find that comfort zone

Latest on Yedlin:

Transfered to Roma for $5 Million. Loaned back to Sounders through 2014 season.

Seems to have more steam behind it than before. More information, more sources.

NYCFC signed Frank Lampard today.

Chelsea's most decorated player now a part of Manchester City's American reserve club... Blues fans must be thrilled. Imagine him being loaded back to City until the next MLS season starts. When he is official? next March?

anyways...

word is Origi, Remy, Manquillo (whom I am ignorantly excited about because of Nog's breakdown) and now Lovren are all set to be completed by Liverpool.

Leaves a left back (if they choose) and I'd say one more impact player (winger/striker) to come

Smurf, do you think the Roma-Yedlin thing is just convenience based reporting because Roma's in town?

NYCFC's expansion draft is in March. So he will either sit the winter...or go on loan somewhere. I doubt it would be City. I can see him going to Australia like I believe David Villa is doing.

Liverpool are signing some good players. Depth. They may have lost their superstar, but they are rounding out the edges. Will be interesting to see if the points they lost from Suarez leaving will be replaced by points gained from a more rounded roster.

Hard hearing Lallana is out for some time with a leg injury though.

Anyone catch the United vs LA game? 7-0. LVG has them in a 343/523.

As for Yedlin, I honestly don't know. Roma makes sense for him....I really don't think they want to loan him back to Seattle. I think they want him now and I don't think the Sounders or Yedlin are ok with that scenario. I think thats the issue...I think Seattle played hardball, and are going to get what they want.

Yeah Lallana out up to 6 weeks. Bit if a bummer. More motivation to get Vidal, Isco or Shaqiri. :)

United will be interesting to say the least. LvG is no Moyes. But its not Fergies United either. Still lits of window left and if they can shop outside England and bring a big talent in they may back to a top 5 side

Critical (nervy?) times

Arsenal have apparently agreed to a deal for Southampton right back Calum Chambers, which would make things interesting concerning the future of Carl Jenkinson. I honestly don't know much about Chambers as he's only made 23 appearances for the Saints. Though Arsenal do have a slightly favorable history of signing Southampton players(i.e. Walcott and Ox).

They've also appear to be in talks with the Saints over a move for Schneiderlin.

Don't know much about Chambers either but Schneiderlin makes sense for Arsenal.

Saints are going to start looking like Blackpool (they have 6 players) if they keep selling players.

It's jawdropping to see how far Blackpool have fallen since they were in the EPL.

I'm going Rome in August, so I would love to see Yedlin up there

Anyway, Reports indicate that QPR is interested by Mathieu Valbuena (probably the best french player during the World Cup).

Also, Van Gaal already annoys me. All he's done is bitch an moan about everything this summer, starting in the World Cup and now he's whining about preseason and kickoff times. Suits Ushited to a T, I reckon.
So you're saying he's filling the Fergie role well?

Yes please.

Love that you're a QPR fan. Club could do something if they stay up a year or two. Moneys no issue

Gate, that deal for Chambers is apparently 16 mil. I don't know much about him either, but Southampton are making out like bandits this summer. They've gotten something like 80 mil already for Lallana, Lovren, Lambert and Shaw, and now will be getting 16 mil for Chambers. Hopefully they re-invest it wisely.

Have to agree with Simon, if Liverpool complete these deals for Lovren, Origi, Remy and Manquillo, we really just need a left back and a big name attacker and this will have been a great window.

Lallana out until September is a bummer, but it happens. We have plenty of cover.

Couple people I know here like Chambers a lot for what its worth. Think he may be England's future at right back (isn't Clyne English though?)

Yeah Liverpool finally have depth in mid. Still need an attacking player though. Appears Origi is back to Lille for the year.

Either one needs to be brought in (Shaqiri) or Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Suso needs to step up quite a bit.

Coutinho has looked good thus far. Waiting on the others

I don't like Valbuena because he is so much fool of himself. But well, he isn't bad!
