Very athletic player, but not sure how much he has left. Again, his athleticism though is great so at least he has that going for him being over the age of 30.

I'm not sure what he has left. But it's worth noting that the national media panned and/or yawned at Seattle's signing of Lawrence last year. The right coaching staff, team culture, youthful energy, media fawning, SB chance, etc. can rejuvenate a guy who only has to go in rotationally. He turns 32 this year so who knows.

When JS talks about "being 'in' on every deal" it's this. We don't know the price/contract for Fowler, but he's a bargain at some price and a roster-killer at a different price. A lot of GMs would look at it and think, "not worth the effort" and 3 weeks later might be surprised at a 1 yr "prove-it" deal and regret that they rushed to judgement....

It's also a way JS "chases edges". We know Fowler isn't going to be a weekly game wrecker at this point in his career. But he might improve the depth or rotation or bring some knowledge to mentor younger guys... or anything that improves, there's possible value. It won't be revealed in his stats, but neither was the value Cooper Kupp, or Bobo or Big Cat or...or....

...and who knows, maybe he'll get two fumble recovery TDs in one game and change how opponents pass-protect the rest of the season. ...or maybe he's too expensive but the pursuit shows the staff we're putting in more effort and looking everywhere for any edge, and shows the players they always have a shot at another contract in Seattle if they add value.

This is why JS wins Exec of the Year. ...not the big splashy, no-brainer moves, like re-signing JSN or picking a good player in round 1.

I was wondering about that. Better to wait, keep those comps. Also, this team has a history of some really solid free agent signings, especially on defense. Get a guy around a bunch of ballers, more often than not, it rubs off on the guy. A change of scenery is legit what many players need, imo. I suspect a LOT of players would love to play on this defense. Especially since they are a SB champion on the rise.

Makes perfect sense. Garretts and Crosbys don't grow on trees. John has tried obtaining guys like these forever, but we're always picking too low to draft one or pull off a trade for one. So pass rush by committee is the next best solution.

Dante Fowler was graded higher than Boye Mafe by PFF last year. Fowler was at 77.6 (21st among edge defenders) vs. 70.3 for Mafe (46th). But it's PFF, so take that with a grain of salt. Mafe had more pressures (40) than Fowler (30).

Dan Quinn is a big believer in Fowler. He coached him in college, then brought him to Dallas when he was DC there, and then took Fowler with him when he became HC of the Commanders.

Fowler's not a bad low-cost replacement, but probably can't expect too much from him in his age 32 season.

He has had 30+ pressures every season. I think he'll be a fine replacement to make up for the 40 pressures we lost with Mafe.

The Dante Fowler visit strikes me as due diligence at work. Possible plan B or C post draft option.

Reliance on a situational rush specialists telegraphs intention. Not ideal.

I'm more interested in the continuing development of young Jamie Sheriff and Conner O'Toole into more rounded and complete competitors. As well as to who might be selected in the draft and signed on post draft day 4.

In any case we'll see. Eventful off season.

Just remember John Randle, we got him later also and he worked out ok, mileage and injury history. some guys have a longer window if they have not had a serious injury and taken care of themselves along with a good training staff where they come from.
