Pick 92: Jalen Milroe

My first gut reaction was that we have bigger holes to fill. Now I am on board with that he is a unique player and needs to be looked at in a unique way.

Think of a DE that does nothing all year but still gets 17 sacks, we would say that he is an All-Pro.

Give this QB 20 plays where he can make the pass and has the option to run and the crowd will rise to their feet every time MM runs him out there.

Maybe they can also draft someone to make good decisions in the red zone.

The truth here is that Seattle thought Milroe was the best QB in the draft and they were confident they could get him in the 3rd round and did. Whether they were right or wrong about that remains to be seen. I think he has a ton of potential and upside and we basically traded Geno for him, which I think is perfectly acceptable from a risk standpoint with Darnold signed.

The gadget plays I’m sure they will draw up should be pretty fun to watch. He’ll be working with a better staff here than in college for development so my expectation is that he improves on areas he has some weaknesses.

I don’t mind picks like this, he’s got all of the natural attributes to be a top QB, he clearly needs working on and is very raw…… but something intrigues me about him.

I just did a little research and found out that 29.19% of third round picks become starters in the NFL. I also looked at every third round pick the Hawks ever made and only a small handful of them became memorable players for the franchise, players like RW, Tyler Lockett, Fred Young, Sean Locklear, and Darrell Jackson leading the way.

In other words, it's always a roll of the dice on a third round pick. OMG! If Milroe doesn't become the man the world will come crashing down. Well guess what? The odds are he won't even become a starter. At least we're taking a shot on a QB in the draft for only the third time in like 15 years.

Word is he cant process complex defense quickly... at the college level. Thats a pretty necessary attribute to be a top qb.

I think MM sees shades of Lamar Jackson. Hope he is right.

I think the Seahawks had bigger holes to fill than try to reach for a player that has a ceiling of gadget player Taysum hill. If their strategy was to swing for the fences for a QB then I’d rather had them take a swing at another position where it’s a higher percentage of a hit

Milroe has been awful in college and showed no promises as a QB. Even QB whisperer DeBoer couldn’t help him out. His biggest problem is that he locks onto his first progression too much, which I assume means he goes through his reads slowly. Second, accuracy. Third, he gets rattled too much. Any pressure and he’s seeing ghosts

Honestly the over reaction from posters here who think they know QB evaluation and resource value better than the Hawks scouts, coaches and GM? Let’s see at the kid can do over the next few years. I’m excited we have a dynamic player who is a physical beast

I love this excuse. It’s been used since the dawn of the internet (Usenet) when discussing professional sports. It’s white noise in a thread discussing about the draft pick. Come back with constructive commentary

MM said how difficult it is defending these types of players. That said, he’s a weapon for Kubiak to roll out. It will take time for him to be a prolific passer, but he’s got a rocket for an arm that can make all the throws, he just needs fine tuned.

Alright folks, this is crunch time, for the division. 3 minutes left in the 4th, 3rd and 1 at the Rams 45, Seattle down by 3, in at quarterback, Jalen Milroe?
Milroe takes the snap, gives to Charbonnet over right guard, the Rams defensive line has it bottled up...
Wait, Milroe kept it, can he get to the edge and the first down? YES! Millroe stiff-arms a Rams defensive back, he's down the sidelines, Rams can't catch him, TOUCHDOWN SEAHAWKS!!

Would that one play make the Milroe pick more than worth it?
I think so. I vividly recall Taysom Hill taking it to the house against the Seahawks with a 60 yard game-winning run a couple years ago. That's at the 3:55 mark in the video below. Seahawks short yardage and goal line situations could be very exciting this year. I'd guess that's how MacDonald and Kubiak are looking at this pick.

Yeah he is definitely a better pure passer than Hill and he exhibits the ability to add touch to his fades or put in some velocity on the left or right boundary. We will see what NFL level coaching can do for him though.
