Can you read NFL defenses? Probably not. But you are probably better at it than Milroe. Even so, his terrible ability to assess and react to defenses, his piss poor accuracy, and all the rest...aren't the main problem.

The problem is that he is a massive risk.

The stuff I was hearing about what was going on at Bama? Probably worse than anything I have ever heard about a QB in college, with the exception of someone doing SA/hard R, or the dogfighting thing.

You kept hearing about how the locker room was completely divided, with those supporting Milroe and pressuring others to do so, and the schism with those who resisted.

The odd thing is that it isn't clear Milroe is the one responsible for some of the terrible stuff going on off-field regarding this. But his camp was either involved, or HE was orchestrating what those people were doing. Either way, big risk. Big red flag.

Risks for upside don't make sense here. Even if you convert him into a RB, WR, or defensive player - you are still dealing with someone, maybe in Milroe himself - conducting himself in way that can destroy a team.

Is it just a rumor from Bama? Maybe. But I heard it from enough people over there to give it credence, ESPECIALLY because if true then it given Kalen a huge excuse. And frankly, the people at Bama are livid with Kalen. It isn't likely they all started supporting a rumor that defends him.

The downside here is bad. The upside is maybe moving him to another position. Is that worth it?
He's not in a position here to disrupt the locker room and would immediately get put in his place if he tried to.

He’ll bring some excitement on gadget plays and learn behind Darnold for a couple seasons.

I really don’t understand the negativity here. If he sucks, then it’s a wasted third round pick, which really isn’t that big of a deal. If he turns out to be a legit starter with raw potential who can be coached, then this is a huge win.

Don’t get the whining.

Same.

Every single person in here grumbling over him will be spilling their drinks and popcorn on his first flashy play for us when he takes it to the house.

He's the worst passer in the draft. Just focking awful. Waste of a pick. Idiotic.
He's not... at all.......... and its ironic that IndyHawk "hates the mariners" liked your post... Pretty sure he just hates the city after moving?

So some how.. you have a completely different take than EVERYONE ELSE IN THE PROFESSIONAL REALM....

Yes he can read defenses........ he's known for his brain and running ability, decision making.

WHat on EARTH are you even talking about or where are you even gathering your information from? Because its the complete opposite of EVERYTHING known about him
"The stuff I was hearing on twitter" ?

At this point you are hitting page 10 of a google search to find... a tweet and a report.. and having never gone further.

Do me a favor.. use your intelligence, not your google skills

The man did just fine under Saban... the system he learned for 2 years... then you bring in the new Coach... Some how.. none of this clicks with.... ANYONE.. Saban Praises him... your internet rumors can basically eat it

"You kept hearing" No... no you didn't ROFL

— I don’t love the pick. I was hoping for the center from Georgia. I will just trust the process on this one. He is a very erratic passer. Please do go watch his “highlight” package. He is phenomenal running the ball with great balance and elusiveness.
But look at the throws. It is NOT good at this point in his career. His biggest plays are often bad throws. The receiver had to slow down on most of the deep stuff. In college you throw to an open space, in the pros you have to throw to a closed window, just knowing it will open in time.
His physical gifts are comparable to only a multi time MVP, but he lasts to the late third?? Come on.
Will I cheer when he makes some amazing move in some goal line package, heck yeah I will, im a Hawks fan. But you are being willfully ignorant if you suggest he is even an average thrower at this point. It doesn’t mean he can’t get better, but you need to accept that he needs to.

What is all this crap about him being some kind of cancer on the Alabama team? I never heard any such thing about him from credible sources. I heard he was a hard worker and top achieving student athlete. He had a shyt second half of the season, under a new coaching staff, with an entitled Alabama fanbase that was in full meltdown over losing to Vandy, Oklahoma, and then missing the CFP. Fingers were being pointed in every direction by everyone. The program got spoiled under Saban's success. It was a turbulent year of change for the program in all sorts of different ways.

This was the worst draft for QB's in a decade. I wasn't clamoring for anyone; I just didn't want them to take one guy. They wasted a 3rd rounder on a dude that has so many holes in his game. To say this guy has major accuracy issues would be kind. he will throw a 40 yard dime and then the next 4 passes are in the dirt. It would be one thing if he could read defenses and was a quick processor. He's the opposite. Hard to be an NFL QB when you sucked as a college QB.

We’ve all seen him play.
Bama’s on TV every week
Some of what you say has merit. And some of it is hyperbole
He’s not polished, but he isn’t unfixable either

Well, Sherm and Alexander were both sent to announce picks, anyone think it was a coincidence that he was related to Milroe? He was a target from the start, Sherm well Emmanwori could have been the guy as well or a CB they liked but it was a secondary guy all along as well. Additionally, he will be in QB school out of the gate, Richardson and Lance are both examples of pushing guys before they are ready, we won't do that with both Darnold and Lock here. They will rebuild him with his footwork, throwing motion and film schooling. He will be humbled by how much farther along our other QB's are, he will get moments on the field to showcase his unique abilities, but no expectations to be a major threat as a starter any time soon, maybe two seasons.

A very "expensive" funny.. ung... he wont beat out Darnold on year one..... but can press him in year two I believe... I still see him as a year three starter with Darnold going the way side with the contract... who knows or we just wasted a third round pick... but Based on the three we already got.. I am very happy

If Sam plays well this season, gets the team to the playoffs, and then wins a Playoff game or two.... I don't think Milroe will be pressing anything in year two.

This is going to be a huge year for Darnold for many reasons.

He already had motivation to prove doubters wrong....Now he's got an upstart being drafted who could take his job? There's more motivation to add to the fire.

So it sounds like they're going to use him as some type of Wildcat guy?

From the presser, it sounds like they plan on giving him some snaps, maybe as early as this season.

Inconsistent as a passer, but the 20 rushing TDs is impressive. He's an electric runner. Will be interesting to see what Kubiak does with him.

Ohhhh, I love it.

Is Adrian Peterson still a running back advisor on the team? If so, that's one trait that Milroe and he can bond on already with the potential hall of famer.

All jokes aside, I'm ok with the selection at that pick. He was never going to be a first or second round worthy pick with all the things he still needs to work on, but he should have plenty of time to develop with the coaching staff.

Man! I absolutely love this pick. Easily the highest potential of all QBs in this draft. Has a lot of problems passing but he has years to develop behind Darnold and can be utilized in wildcat since week one, just get the ball in his hands and all the talent in the world is there.

If it doesn’t work out, it’s not like we invested our future in him. This pick has the upside of Anthony Richardson or Trey Lance but without the investment. Nice roll of the dice with little to lose and massive amounts to gain.

As a life long Bama fan.. and dad a former Bama player... I love this pick and can't wait to see him in a year or two.

He's not going to start, and is going to get some actual snaps I think..

He's a more accurate Lamar Jackson Lite... (Alamaba didnt use the RPO as much as Louie did back then so.. who knows the actual production of him as a runner?)

5 lbs of muscle isnt hard to put on in the offseason ;) (Thinking Lamars weight as hes about 6 lbs lighter)
Huh. What are you saying here. He is 10lbs heavier than Jackson. Bigger frame from the start.

No doubt Mike is trying to create a Baltimore copy if Sam doesn't work out. The hope is Milroe would be Lamar 2.0. I don't know if the running QB thing works out forever though. Unless the NFL stays extremely firm on protecting the QB. The NFL changes every 10 years so I have no idea if the strategy works out. Are most QB's going to be like Lamar in the near future? Will the statue pocket passer be completely dead soon? This doesn't seem like a skill pick more of a philosophy pick. He's going to play immediately too.
