Fields will get some starts playing behind Russ. Russ won't move and won't throw the ball away, so it's just a matter of time before he gets hurt. He turns 36 in November...

I'd laugh if Fields came in and started moving the chains playing small ball and using his legs. He's capable!

Fields for a sixth is a way better deal than Howell for whatever combo of downgrading our picks it was. Anyone saying otherwise is once again falling in love with our bad backup.
Howell is a better QB than Fields, so it's not ridiculous to say that the trade for him required a slightly better deal than what Pittsburgh gave Chicago. Plus, I'd bet Chicago was more desperate to let go of Fields, than Washington was to let go of Howell. No doubt Chicago wanted more, but ended up having to settle, with a bunch of other QB's being dealt before Fields finally was.

Poles HAD TO TRADE Fields, and every GM knew it.

Wow. I wonder how Russ feels about this. He was probably feeling pretty secure when pickett was traded. Now, whatever you think of fields, there may be a competition for the starting job or at the very least a much shorter leash for Russ.

if russ falters and gets replaced by fields, that just might finish his career.
He was probably in the middle of saying “Mr unliiiiimit-“ and then went motherfucker!

Also, Fields only has one year left on his rookie deal. If you exercise his 5th year option, it will cost you over $25 million. That also limited his trade value.

Fields is an intriguing player, but hasn't proven himself to be an NFL-level passer. With his running, it's only a matter of time before he's seriously injured.

There is so much hyperbole around fields. He’s “garbage” now. I think he showed flashes in an organization that stunted his growth
Tim Tebow showed flashes as well. Even won a playoff game. You got to show more than flashes When you’re drafted in the first round.

It's hilarious to see how giddy Stealers fans are over these moves. I guess that's what happens when you are used to Pickett and Rudolph. The truth is they just picked up a has-been and a never-been. Neither will be on their roster in a couple years.

Wilson will take Field under his wings, take Field on trips in his private jet, hang out with Hollywood starlets. Justin can learn so much from his new mentor.

Russell only befriends those he absolutely doesn’t see as a threat. Last year, he took Ben DiNucci and not Stidham to meet Deion Sanders in Boulder.

Sorry, nah. Let's say you considered them approximately equal in terms of talent (which wouldn't be nuts since they were both pretty much bottom 5-10 in every major rating metric), there is so much more downside here with Fields.

1) Fields only has 1-year left on his contract and costs much more.

2) Fields is older.

3) Fields has started for 3 seasons now and has shown basically no improvement at all.

4) What's wrong with Fields seems to be much more intractable than what's wrong with Howell. Howell's issue is that he hasn't adjusted to the speed of the NFL game and needs to understand his limitations as an athlete at this level. That can (potentially) be coached. Fields is still elite as athlete at the NFL level and it simply doesn't matter because he cannot process defenses to save his life.

5) Even if you view both guys purely as backups, Howell works for that so much better than Fields. Howell's style of play is much more analogous to Geno's. Fields would require a completely different playbook.

---

I am in no way 'falling in love' with our bad backup. I just see things like this: I think Howell is bad but still has potential and actually makes sense as Geno's backup. I think Fields is bad, he's going to stay that way, and would be a poor choice to be Geno's backup.
