So much of what Washington ran had no reads. Penix knew where he was going with the ball before the snap a really, really high percentage of the time. And he threw it there no matter what. That will only fly occasionally in the NFL.
I wouldn't say no reads. It was much easier to read and made life easier for the QBs. However, their mesh concepts had reads. Their deep shots down field had reads.

The way the WRs aligned and the concepts made it easier to see the coverage. Grubb will have to adjust because pressure and disguises did mess with UW's offense.

Shout out to Jody Allen. Lord knows how big of a bag she had to drop to pry Grubb outta the hands of those boosters.
I'm not taking anything away from Jody as she's been great, but it's kind of public knowledge that grubb just really didn't want to be there.

Alabama had offered him more money than he was getting at uw the previous offseason, and he said no. It seemed like loyalty to DeBoer at the time, but he obviously liked living in seattle more than the prospect of Tuscaloosa.

Obviously the case, because huff would have been OC if he'd stayed, I'd actually heard it was multiple coaches, but the other two being named co-oc was enough of a promotion I guess, don't blame em even slightly.

Yeah, and Kalen Deborah was busy interviewing for Alabama rather than getting his team prepared.
The fact that people don't believe this is stunning.... Deboer was hired 4 days after the superbowl, and 2 days after Saban retired.

He phoned it in in the championship, and based on the 1st quarter the players probably knew too(im less sure about this though).

You can't orchestrate your departure and focus on the championship at the same time.

Crazy talk. Michigan is that good. Penix was clearly hurting as well.

Careful what you wish for--they said... hahaha.

I liked all of the presnap motion they used at UW. And he will definitely utilize that in Seattle. DK is about to have a career year as well.

I'm pumped to see what they do at QB in the longterm. Penix is definitely on the table, Rattler is intriging as well.

Oh, Jody! You never cease to amaze me. After sitting on your hands for 4 years, you go and pull this off.

I give this move an A grade. Given what is out there. As the best OCs are all Headcoaches. So the pickings are slim. Hard to do much better than this once this is understood.

What a coaching staff!

The future is bright!
I think this is the first time in .net history that you have a more positive take than I do, Fade!

I'm struggling to maintain cautious optimism. I've loved all the coaching hires until now.

If JS makes the predicted moves and brings in a bunch of college position coaches, it will leave the team without high level NFL experience for the offensive coaching staff. I sure hope there's a plan in place to bring in someone experienced (like a Frazier) to help out on the offensive side.

I'll try to remain cautiously optimistic but I can't shake the feeling we'll likely experience a regression from Waldron-level success, at least for the first 2-3 years while this inexperienced offensive staff is learning as they go.

I'm getting ok with Penix but I really want Rattler if possible. That boy will be a fast mover like Richardson trust me.
Richardson moved because of combine numbers.... Ratboy will be lucky to run a sub 4.8, and he's not cracking 4.75.

He's slower than each of the top 6,

Tier one: Caleb, jayden, maye
Tier 2: penix, Mccarthy, bo
Tier 3 - Pratt, rattler, travis

No specific order, ratboy can maybe creak into tier 2, but I'd be surprised if he even passes Pratt

If everyone was clamoring for a young OC with innovative concepts and the ability to adapt, they just got it. There may be a few bumps, but I think this guy is going to be very successful.

Theres going to be a regression on defense too (not necessarily last year, but last 5 years average).

We're replacing a winning team (9-8 is winning as much as some of you disagree), and a longstanding coach with a 1st time HC, 1st time DC at any level, 1st time OC in nfl, and 1st time assistants.

We're also probably going to have worse personnel than last season due to the cap.

Of course it's going to be a step back with growing pains, this was going to happen regardless of who replaced carroll.

Can't wait to see the wailing though, half of the fan base started watching football after carroll started here, bunch of spoiled beats due for a reality check.

That being said I expect year two to be much more promising, and year 3 to be a breakout season (I'm basing this on average turnaround for successful new coaches, and cap room looking forward, not just a hunch)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to take anything away from Michigan they were clearly the better team.

But that's the flattest I've seen uw come out in the deboer era. It was like they didn't care.

UW defense wasn't great all year, but they weren't 170 rushing yards in the 1st quarter bad, nor was Michigan that good.

Michigan more than likely still wins, but it's a different game if they'd played in the 1st round of the playoffs.

My take?

Ryan Grubb's running game will complement McDonald's defense very well.

Thus ends the nearly 40 minutes of "Time of Possession" that this team has been giving up to the opposition in recent years.

Finally, this team is forming a sound strategy that looks complimentary to both the offense and defense.

I really like this move!!!!

Caleb Williams is a tier alone. NFL ready day one.

Jayden Daniels has the legs of Walmart Lamar but his mid/deep accuracy is sub par.
Drake Maye is Mitch Trubisky v2.0.
Penix has an elite arm and will probably be on IR after week 2. Honestly my only rub on him is his ability to stay healthy. Elite NFL arm and deep ball accuracy, comfortable in a pocket with some running ability.
JJ should be a 6th round pick who sits on the bench for 2 years. Then he'll be the next Brady.
Nix probably has the best short/medium accuracy, although he's got happy feet in the pocket. Him, Drake & Jayden all struggled to trust the pocket and weren't asked to do complex multiple reads like Penix or Williams.
Spencer Rattler isn't an NFL QB.
Michael Pratt may be my favorite draft/sit option. Average NFL arm, solid deep-ball accuracy, comfort in the pocket. He's got a little wobble in his ball which is why ne needs to sit.

My opinions (not where I think they'll be drafted, but where they should be drafted)
Caleb - R1P1 (start)
Penix - R1P2 (start)
Nix - R2 (year 1 sit)
Pratt - R3 (year 1 sit)
JJ - R4 (year 1/2 sit)

Everyone else is an avoid.

I keep people saying this but uw was a passing team.

They were 130th in rush attempts out of 133 teams, and 102nd in rushing yards.

People need to look beyond Dillon's numbers and get ready for reality.

I'd have jayden and Drake above penix still (Jayden mostly because of injury concern, but Drake is legit a dude, trubisky is a laughable comparison).

I'd move Pratt to 4, combine will decide if he's above/below jj for me.

I agree on ratboy but some stupid team probably takes him in the 3rd, just hope it isn't us

Good post though

BS - The UW lost it's number 1 and number 2 running backs before the season began.

I thought they hired an experienced assistant HC?
