I'm not sure there are any better candidates currently.

Chip has evolved as a coach. It's not the same Oregon/Philly offense. I think there are potentially a ton of positives with this move.

He's a better OC than HC in my mind. The guy has a ton of experience. He wants no part of the current college landscape. That's why he's interviewing for this job. He also has coached guys like Charbonnet & Bobo.

He's not going to get another HC opportunity in the NFL. At least not right away.
He also absolutely HATED dealing with boosters. Completely understandable. Imagine how much worse that is today as opposed to ten years ago.

The grass is not always greener on the other side applies perfectly for Chip Kelly. He had it great at Oregon, money, Phil Knight/Nike wealth for facilities and more, cool unis to attract talent, a top tier team, etc.., pretty much everything. He never got back to that level of success and recognition again.

As JS and MM are taking their time, I will say that I’m confident they are going to make the right choice.

I haven’t watched UCLA, sans clips of Charb, in years.
Yeah, we're the only team with an OC position open, so we can take our time. Hopefully that's why JS agreed to interview him as there's no sense of urgency other than to get the staff filled out so they can get to work.

The move still doesn't make any financial sense. Unless Seattle is prepared to break the bank on Kelly, there's no way he's leaving UCLA to be an OC. Just matching his recent contract with UCLA would make him far and away the highest-paid coordinator in the league. Does that make any sense? Are we really going to overpay for a guy whose track record calling plays in the NFL is spotty?

Think Kelly is a smokescreen, John turns every rock over, but Kelly has been available to talk to for weeks.
But who's he trying to fool? It's not like it's the draft or free agency where you interview players to make other teams think that we're interested in them. We're the only team left that has an OC opening.

I'm hoping that the interview is just out of courtesy to Kelly, that we're not serious about hiring him.

If you interview guys and they are on the fence or waiting for their team if employed to give them a better offer publicly announcing an interview can get them off the fence.

I think the way the college game has gone with the transfer portal and money being involved has made it really tough on coaches and they hate it. He's probably made a ton of money and dealing with all that stuff is a nightmare. If he does a great job here maybe he gets another head coaching gig

Might be trying to leverage another potential OC he's talking to to either hurry up or take less money, I didn't think of it at first either
