as a result of some excellent drafting we are loaded with young talent

can we pay everyone?

I feel like at some point we are going to have to move an important player or two for future picks to manage the cap and keep things stocked up with new rookies

Schneider has done an excellent job clearing out the dead cap money, maybe we do have the space

its going to get expensive though

Derrick Hall, Byron Murphy, Grey Zabel, Nick Emmanwori, Devin Witherspoon, Aj Barner

Good problem to have I guess

The quick answer is "No, we can't." Evidence the loss of several pretty good players to FA this past off season. It's a really tough job to keep a team on top. The salary cap is intended to do just that.

Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury the Patsies had during the Brady years of playing in a shit division. We play in the strongest division in the league with 3 solid playoff teams. It's gonna be another dog fight.

That's why JS gets paid the big bucks, to try and keep this ship afloat. So far, so good, but it's only been a couple of years in this iteration. We're all hoping it works out over the next 3-5 years at least.

Don't need to pay everyone, just the core dudes. A handful of them are locked up or about to be. Need some young talent on the DL in the next year or two and the team will be reloaded again and still young.

JS/MM know their $#!+, it's been a pleasure to watch.

Absolutely not, and I think it's brilliant. I think and hope that what Schneider is building is a cap and team structure that allows us to scout draftees and free agents 2 years down the road, and allow "irreplaceable" players to walk in free agency, or via trade.

You hold onto the absolute cream of the crop superstars in their prime, but don't hold onto them too long. You don't try to hold onto the stars. You have a plan for replacing them, that may not be obvious to others at the time you let them go.

Everything is about sticking to the plan, and staying on schedule, never being too loyal or connected to any one player, even a JSN or a B Wags.

The hardest part will come after we pay Darnold, or whoever the QB is in the future. That's a much harder cap to manage.

Thank god the cap continues to grow but weather or not spoon makes it or not I am not sure , if he plays hardball it might be tough so I'm guessin they'll keep an eye on
this years draft class if it drags on that long cuz even at 32 we have the ammo so 0I'm hopin the vikes take our guy for their gm job which could help a lot bcuz if spoon goes they have to have a plan and MM knows who and what he needs
It's just a great thing to have a coach and gm actually in lock step unlike what transpired in la this draft .
You honestly can't tell me mcbaby was happy with that 1st round pick and the history of sneads 1st round picks are horrendous compared to not only us but just about anybody lol so let's hope this stays the course and year 3 of an MM defense has some new tricks that keeps the nfl on watch for however long we can
Go Hawks

Nobody can pay everyone. The big wild card is going to be Darnolds negotiation next year. The good news though, they have a ton of cap space right now and they can take all these extensions and defer the cap hits to future years. Also next year they have 11 picks in what is considered a really strong draft. I think the current championship window is wide open and should remain there for at least 2-3 more years, longer if John nails these draft picks.

Pay: Spoon, Murph, Emmanwori, Zabel

Some current players: Will retire and/or sign contracts with other teams

Spoon will get paid soon. Murph has until 2027, then rookie deal turns into option. Zabel, has 3 more years until his option kicks in.

I’m guessing Leonard Williams will be retiring in the next 2 years.

Some cap space will free up.

Draft draft draft. They didn’t pay Walker, Mafe or Woolen. Those are some good players. I do feel we replaced well int he draft and free agency but only time will tell the truth on that. Money saved helps pay core players and get some vets in at a good price. If good player leaves then either a comp pick or possibility of trade for some draft capital. As long as John keeps nailing drafts (most important) the player locker will remain stocked. Drafting well also means you get good players for cheap for 3-4 years. Winning also helps attract Vets with a little bit of gas left in the tank to come here on the cheap:)

I'm going to say it now: I don't think they're going to extend Darnold. I know QB's don't grow on trees and he played a big part of them winning a SB, but I think John learned his lesson on paying big money to QB's unless they're generational, and I don't see Darnold being the type of QB that they back the Brinks truck up for. Maybe if it's a team-friendly deal, but I think that's the ONLY way they extend his contract, if they even do.

He'll have made close to $170 million career earnings by the time he finishes his Seattle contract. I'd think that he'd sign a relatively team-friendly deal because he's finally found a home where he's respected and comfortable. Something in the low to mid 40's. It'll be interesting to see if teams still hand out mid-50 million (and more) contracts to the "next guy up" after this not working out many times recently. The big clue will be what Houston does with Stroud, who hasn't shown himself worthy of that kind of money (so he'd be a candidate for the 40's type contract).

No, we can't pay everyone. It has already started with the likes of K9, Coby, Mafe, and Riq. The solution is to only pay the best of the best (like JSN snd Spoon) while crushing it in the draft to replace everyone else.

Yeah, I think the new framework has been set. Pay the stars, pay the cheap depth, and let the "mid tier" go chase big contracts while collecting comp picks. A very sustainable approach to roster management.

Agree with the DL thoughts. I would add that being willing to part with popular players when they start to decline should be included.
