So you’re cool with paying a 38 year old tackle a base salary in 26’-27’ of $48 million dollars? That $38 mil plus the $10 million dollar roster bonus he was due yesterday. Sure you can back load the books but you’re already top 5 in dead money in real time. Seattle leads the league in lowest dead money cap hit. These teams are just managed differently. Glad we got JS
He won't count 48 mil. That's what they are negotiating down.
Niners are high in dead cap because of the way they structure deals...which is pushing back that money into years when the cap is higher.
Seattle will run into this as well at some point....they are just young and have alot of players still on rookie contracts.
49ers hit reset last year which is why they had 90 mil in dead cap and they played so many rookies. If you recall when we were talking about the games I kept saying the 49ers shouldn't even be here. Yes...injuries were part of that, but so was the fact that last year was a cap reset year.
Note they've signed a number of guys, but NONE of them have broken the bank. ALL of them combined are less than 34 mil on this years cap.
BTW...its really easy to lead the league in dead cap when you are one of the youngest teams in the league. Seahawks have done a great job drafting and develpomg, but at some point, the $$$ come due. Then they'll have to make tough choices RE who they do or do not pay. It started already with Walker.
