Or when you win a lot, you need to retain good players and pay them good money. Works both ways.

Winners are built through the draft. Losers are built in FA. Been that way for a long time.
Yes they were, when you had 19 draft picks, now you have 7 rounds, maybe extra with comps, you need to be able to evaluate UDFA, FA from other rosters and how they fit your scheme. Get back to us when you catch up with this Century.

Only four teams haven’t made an external addition during free agency thus far:

- Seahawks

- Broncos

- Jaguars

- Eagles

All four teams won at least 11 games in 2025.
I don’t know if it means anything, but it’s pretty fun to be a part of a rare group of people who seem financially adept

This is usually John's way.

Once you have a nucleus of the right character guys who are bonded, play togther well and you want to reward with solid pay days or have at a reasonable price, you dont mess with. Fire comes from competition. You have to bring the right kind of guy in at the correct budget number. Its not just about big talent. Pay a 'best FA at his position' who doesnt match the culture or lost the fire because he got payed and you end up messing up in more ways than just overpaying - you screw up the fomula and chemistry. And you paid top dollar for the privelege.
Im glad we arent one of those teams making big splashes.
Thats not to say we wont add a big name via trade later in the season the way Clowney and J Graham got here. That's also the way John likes to deal.

As long as you don't overvalue those players and overpay them at the cost of being unable to pay your elite players.

The foolish teams do all of the big time signing on day 1, and then find themselves with no money in the ensuing years when a real game changer like Byron Murphy needs signing.

Per Brady Henderson, 2 years from now, many of the players signed to big money contracts today, will be cut, because they haven't produced enough to justify the contract they were given.

This is why JS has won 2 Superbowls, with 2 completely different teams.

Those that get upset because we didn't overspend today to obtain overvalued players would fit right in with an NFL organization.. such as the Cowboys

I love that they wait it out a little. These 1st days signing are laughable. If you sign one of your own, that's different. But overall, he has rarely done the early overspend thing.
And yes, I know someone will say that Sheed was an overspend. And that's fine.

Guess what everyone did the off-season before we won both our super bowls......bitched about free agency. Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch.
Now look at the top spending teams last 5 years of free agency. Jax, NYJ, LV, Car and Ten. Interesting, isn't it ?
