What the hell does Cal have to do to win the MVP?

I just can't believe it took this long to announce. The regular season (which is what the award is for after all) ended a month and a half ago. The world series was a couple of weeks ago. Why the sam hill does it take this long to announce the results of a vote? MLB trying to stay in the headlines, I suppose. GO AWAY BASEBALL! It's FOOTBALL time! :)

Also, I agree Cal was robbed. They need a "no Yankee" rule. :p

That vote was about as close as you can get without it being a tie or Cal winning it. It really boiled down to how much one valued the catcher position, and what Cal contributed in that way to the M's success this year. It seemed like Judge's significantly higher batting average triumphed over Cal's value as a catcher in voter's minds. Even though Cal bested Judge in HR's and RBI's, it was very close, almost negligible in those categories.

I thought Cal should have gotten it. It was one of the greatest performances for a player at his position in MLB history. Full stop. Probably a bit of some east coast bias put Judge over the top, but it's not like he was undeserving of the award.

What do MVPs usually hit around?
I already expressed my thoughts on the subject. Playing catcher is a whole different proposition than playing any other position. Cal had one of the greatest performances in MLB history playing his position, offensively and defensively. Judge had a great year, too. Who had the better year playing their position?

Cal has just as many world series championships as Judge and that is the only award I want as a fan.

FB IMG 1763110418358Your 2025 MVP! 🤣🤣🤣 Meanwhile Cal Raleigh had ZERO passed balls all season. But keep talking about batting average Yankees fans. What a soft fanbase they are.

Cal finished as runner-up for the same reason Pete C and John S never got COTY and GMOTY honors, respectively, with the Seahawks: the apparently unforgivable sin of being associated with a Seattle team. To have any chance of getting the majority of the pundits to concede, seems we have to win it all.

What do MVPs usually hit around? I see Judge was .327, and led Cal in many categories. Is it just all about home runs?
While parking out in RF, making errors and playing some DH.

He's the most valuable HITTER in the league. It's not even close on who was the move valuable PLAYER in the AL. Cal did that all as a catcher. He also went the ENTIRE REGULAR SEASON without a SINGLE PASSED BALL.

Judge missed a bunch of games; Yankees still made the playoffs. Mariners wouldn't even sniff the playoffs w/out Cal.

Raleigh will need to leave Seattle which is tucked away from the rest of the country. I don’t think it’s east coast bias other players such as Ohtani don’t have a problem.

Griffey is the one player I can think of that overcame the issues of playing in Seattle

Sounds like it was more Texas and Houston (go figure) voters who voted for Judge (4 of them)

Not even sort of shocked about Houston. POS losers.
And on 710, now we're hearing that Yankees fans are pissed because the vote was CLOSE. F the Yankees and their fans. Holy crap, what bunch of arrogant a holes. Clearly, NOTHING exists outside of New York

I thought that Cal deserved the award more than Judge due to the difference in his contributions in the field as a catcher which IMO outside of the pitcher, is the most impactful defensive position in the game vs. Judge's defensive play for the Yankees. The M's pitching staff was the strength of the team, and Cal was a critical component of that staff.

Plus, Cal's team made a bigger jump this season, going from missing the playoffs to falling one game short of the World Series. Cal hit .304 with 5 HR's in the playoffs. I think you have to consider the terminology in the award, ie "most valuable", or where his team would have been without him. IMO Cal contributed more to his team's success than Judge did to his.

But I'm not getting my briefs in a wad over a personal award that is purely opinionated. Judge is a fantastic player and had an outstanding season. He hit an MLB best .331, 84 points higher than Cal did, which is huge, and hit an impressive 53 dingers. He was very deserving of the award. And I suppose that the sportswriters felt that they need a star in the country's biggest market to help advance their trade, so politics might have factored into some voter's decision. What else is new?
