Game 5 was a hell of a pitching and defense show on both sides. The final score was 2-3, but felt more like 2.99 to 3.0. The game had no shortage of amazing and maddening plays, and the final outcome could so easily have been nudged the other way. This was a massive win for the Mariners!

Since you brought it up, you might want to refresh your memory about what the argument actually was.

I was arguing that putting him at 3B was a bad idea because he was bad on D at 2B, and 3B is a more demanding defensive position, often referred to as the hot corner. You were arguing that he would be fine, or even good at 3B.

I was right. He was so bad on D at 3B that they stopped putting him there after only a handful of games and they never put him back there again for the rest of the season.

So anyway, thanks for bringing it up to acknowledge that I was right and you were wrong.

Other than that though, yeah, Polanco had a really nice bounce back season after his awful 2024 campaign where he was so bad that he was a liability both on D and at the plate.

We did enough to win and that's all that matters, but Skubal absolutely did not get his fudge packed. Skubal was really good last night. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits and recorded 13 K's to 0 walks in 6 innings.

If that's getting your fudge packed, then I hope all our pitchers get their fudge packed in Toronto, because if they do we'll probably be in great shape heading back to Seattle.

Yes, I recall our dispute about him playing third, and I agree you were right about that. He made a couple of bad plays there, although it could have been due to his not being over his injuries yet early in the year.

Having been a baseball coach for many years (high school), I think that there are ways in which third base is an easier position than second, especially if you have knee issues like Polanco did.

Polanco also spent his time in Minnesota playing both shortstop and third, so you wouldn't have thought that third would be an issue for him, but his oblique issues this year maybe kept him from being able to make those throws across the diamond.

Went to the game yesterday. Entire place was electric. Once we scored and it was 1-0, it honestly felt like the game had posssibly been won. Then win Carptenter hit his jack all the energy was from the stadium was gone. Felt like Skubal was going to throw 120+ pitches and we were only going to see an inning from their pen. I couldn't believe they didn't let him go out for the 7th, crowd had renewed hope once we saw him gone.

Once we stranded runners on first and second with no outs for the second consecutive time it got tiresome. Not going to lie, I boo'd when Suarez grounded in the double play. We were all just tired. This will sound corny, but in the middle of the 15th, they did that stupid salmon race again, and gave Humpy his first career win. That lifted the entire stadium and there was new energy in the building. And we all know what happened next.

Game balls go to the entire pitching staff, Polanco, Rivas and Humpy.

It looks like we might see Woo in the ALCS, most likely Game 3 or 4:

The club’s hard-worked pitching staff will likely be getting some major reinforcements, as M’s president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto told reporters (including the Seattle Times’ Adam Jude) that right-hander Bryan Woo is expected to added to the Mariners’ roster for the next round.

Woo probably won’t pitch until closer to the midpoint of the series, Dipoto said. This means Woo is being lined up for a start when the ALCS shifts to Seattle for Games 3-4 and (if necessary) 5. It also leaves open the question of who exactly will be starting for the Mariners in the first two games in Toronto, as the M’s used starters Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo out of the bullpen during last night’s 15-inning marathon. Gilbert threw 34 pitches over two innings of relief, and Castillo threw 15 pitches over 1 1/3 frames.
