You think someone else wouldn't have given up 2 firsts?
I didn't say that. If he wants a certain player of need and 2 1sts but it's in your conference and outside of your conference your best offer is only the 2 1sts. Which one are you taking?

We don't know what was offered outside of what GB offered but you can't honestly think he didn't take the best deal he was offered regardless where he goes.

I saw a pre season highlight of DK elevating and catching a pass with his hands - Pittsburgh fan thinks that is what they are getting.

Unless he has a switch to flip that we never (or at least rarely) saw - they just saw what he could be - not what he is nor what he will be.
Is that the one where the DB gave up because DK was already out of bounds?

Back on topic: GB plays Dallas on 9/28...

Jerry the idiot took about the worst time to make a deal, days before the season began when team's CAPs and rosters were getting set. There were very few teams at this point in the season that had the flexibility to make such a move. If Jerry had tried to make this trade in March before the draft, it would have been a completely different circumstance in terms of teams and their offers. He basically screwed himself and his team over. This is pretty much common knowledge now.

- He was a selfish little wannabe businessman who found out what happens when millionaires try to leverage billionaires.

Parsons got traded to a better-run team with better immediate playoff prospects, plus got record compensation. Looks like a pretty good businessman to me.

I'd say an arrogant billionaire found out what happens when a guy who brings only money, which by definitition is fungible (Parsons doesn't care who pays him top-of-the-league salary and bonuses), tried to leverage the best in the world at what he does (not fungible at all - teams care very much about who is manning the edge-rusher positions, and Parsons does it better than the other 8.14 billion people in the world), when there were many other teams willing to give that best-in-the-world talent fair market compensation.

I talk about the fungibility of owners all the time. The main point is this: switch out the owners for another group of 30 billionaires and nothing changes. People are still interested in the NFL. Fire all the players and replace them with the next tier, but keep the same owners and everyone's going want to watch the NFL players wherever they went.

If Parsons found out anything, it's that he's got something special that every team wants, while Jones just has money and administrates it badly. Parsons got his market value and Jones was left saying he meant to do this, and it's about making the Cowboys better, to which pretty much everyone said "yeah, sure Jerruh." Jones's own behavior over the last several months makes that one an obviousl lie.

If anyone comes out of this looking like a bad businessman who needs to learn some things, it's Jones. If Jones had either negotiated in good faith in March with the player's agent present, or simply decided that he wasn't willing to dedicate that much of the team's cap space to a single player and started trying to trade Parsons in March, he wouldn't have had to hurriedly accept a deal right before the season starts, when many fewer teams have the cap flexibility to acquire a player like that.

If this is such a good deal for Jones, why didn't he put Parsons on the market for such a deal in March? Why did he keep insisting that Parsons would be playing for the Cowboys this season, as more and more teams believed him and didn't retain the cap flexibility to acquire a player like Parsons? As others have pointed out here, the Cowboys failed to get more for the best edge rusher in the league who is, at age 26, just entering his athletic prime, than the Jets got in 2020 for a safety who couldn't cover.

What are you basing that he is the best edge rusher in the league on? I mean he is elite and top 3 for sure. But he has never led the league in sacks, and although Myles Garrett is older, he is still an absolute monster. And a way better run defender on top of it. Not saying you are wrong, just wondering why you think that. I would add Hendrickson too, he is also getting older, but you could make a strong argument he was the best D-line player in the league last year.

Alternately, no team was willing to give up two firsts plus cap space until now, when all the teams are set, and Green Bay had a firm look at the land.

This might be the best deal that Jones could get for a player who clearly didn’t want to be in Dallas anymore.

It might be a better argument to say that the fact that Jones might have been able to trade him out of conference, or at least to a team the Dallas doesn’t play this year, in March.

The recent league history of 2 firsts for an established defensive star haven’t exactly yielded promising results.

Not saying no-one else was willing, but the suitors may have been few.

Good post.

Jerry reminds me of guy still buying a newspaper every day for his news. He is desperately trying to hold on to the belief that what was effective for him 30 years ago is still the best model. All this exacerbated by the fact that there is (literally) no one to hold him accountable.

Couple this with the fact the other members of Cowboy higher management have familial deference and love for him. I get the same vibes that we see when all our grandparents become quite elderly. The whole “Don’t let his nuances bother you, just appreciate him for who he is, because we don’t have many years left to enjoy him”.

I think there would have been a lot of suitors had he started shopping him in March when the fallout occurred. His stubbornness and threats of tagging MP for an additional two years allowed everyone else to “move along” and solidify their roster.

He could have got a better deal somewhere out of his conference. He lost this hand unless he hits ridiculously big on these picks.

He’s a game changer….no doubt.

Perhaps THIS is minor but…once an athlete starts going down this path…

I’m dealing with an L5/S1 issue now…and have surgery scheduled this month.

I’m way older than Parsons but I can’t imagine playing football feeling like this.

Perhaps it ends up being nothing…but, I’d be a bit ‘ancy’ if I was a GB fan when considering the guaranteed $$.

Zero doubt lower back issues are crippling, I wish you a speedy recovery @GemCity. Hopefully this will transform your quality of life brother.

Regarding Micah tho, two variables.

1. We don’t know how much of his back issues was “contract related”

2. He almost assuredly doesn’t have degenerative spine disease at 27. With the quality of PT and medical attention these men get, I bet his back has no trouble being close to 100% for the duration of this extension.

Appreciate it bro! Spot on with the degenerative back disease statement.

I’m sure GB ran him through the medical checks.

Just odd timing imo!
