After one pre-season game and playing behind 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers? WAY too early to give up on the guy. But I respect your opinion, and you've def. made up your mind. And that's fine.
His running ability and speed are VERY much worth keeping around. He's a weapon with his legs.

If he was a 1st round pick with obvious potential, I’d be on board with using a roster spot for him to sit. Milroe does not fall in that category. Macdonald can’t afford to have a wasted roster spot on the slim chance Milroe becomes a starting caliber QB in 3 years. Nothing he has displayed so far gives promise that he has the ability to diagnose a defense, to throw accurately on a consistent basis and tilt the field in his favor. Now top it off with ball security issues, lackluster game time speed against NFL backups, and he was going against other team’s second, third, fourth stringers…

Lots of red flags.
A 3rd round pick has to play like complete garbage to be cut. Milroe played bad, but behind backups while playing the Green Bay #1s on defense. He was basically thrown to the wolves. Just stop.

You sure you're not just married to your first mind on JMillroe? It happens to me sometimes. I ask because, it doesn't seem at all practical to just cut a 3rd QB under the conditions of which he was evaluated the other day ago.

Jalen Milroe.

I know I’ll catch some serious heat and laugh reacts, but I’m serious. And I understand I’ve put a similar message on another thread, so I’m not trying to spam the forum with my disrespect of Jalen Milroe, but I’ll say the following:

Yes, he’s a project, etc. However, I don’t think he has nearly the limitless ceiling that a lot of folks thinks he has. He appears rather limited and has several issues to his game that may be too much to overcome. And to top it all off, if they were hoping he’d be a gadget guy and the guy getting his tush pushed on short yardage, I don’t even trust him to hold onto the ball now.

I’d rather they hang onto someone who’s currently on the bubble and has a better chance to contribute, like Singleton, Wright, and White.

If the team wants a dual threat QB, they can look in next years draft. If they want a QBOTF, look in next years draft. Milroe is not that guy, imo.
Even if he completely bombed there is no way they cut a rookie 3rd rounder. They would have too much egg on their face if they did so. With that said, I don’t think he played as poorly as you may think in the preseason given the circumstances.

My first thought on Milroe was as most are here: raw potential, patience, allow the coaches to mold him into the starter of the future.

All pre season, I was more than just underwhelmed, I was incredibly disappointed.

I wouldn't be bothered, keep throwing picks at QBOTF until one hits.

That's the only true way of evaluating if he could be the future starter, it's stupid that they don't do it that way, Milroe could've played a couple drives with the starters in the first preseason game.
I don't think they're all too worried about it, simply bc they already have a long(er)-term plan in mind for him. Prototypical "project QB".

There's no need to cut Milroe. He is what we thought he'd be, a developmental QB. I have this feeling that, outside of their running the read-option with him (something he had not executed well at all until the second half of the GB game), they wanted him to focus on his weaknesses, dropping quick, seeing the field, going through his progressions, and getting the ball out in a timely fashion. I saw some good there. I was actually looking at his helmet on replays to see how quick he was going through his reads, to see if he wasn't locking in on one receiver.

Of course the fumbles were horrendous, but maybe they were so bad they might stick in his mind longer now. LOL It's also kind of interesting that he's hardly thrown any deep balls that I can remember, which was one his strong suits as a college QB.

I'm not married to Milroe, even though I was happy they finally took a shot on a QB in the draft. Hell, if our season doesn't turn out as we hoped it would, I'd be fine being aggressive in next spring's draft to get a guy they like in a draft that potentially has 4-5 interesting QB prospects in it.

I finally figured out what QBOTF really stands for. The F does not stand for future. Because you can’t definitively prove that guy really will be the future QB. It stands for fantasy. Because that’s clearly what we fans do with young draftees or backups. We fantasize how great they are going to be. When they don’t measure up to our own preconceived fantasies of what a potential QB should look like, we move on and fantasize about another guy.

I would cut Drew Lock. He been in the league 6+ years and has done nothing. If Sam Darnold goes down, Drew Lock not going to save us. We can sign a veteran and put on practice squad. If Milroe shows no improvement over next 6 years (or sooner) then he'll be gone as well. Sam or bust. Lock brings nothing but dumb interceptions.

@toffee, get in and put him straight. This is a 13-win team that might need a QB2 back-up in case Darnold misses a game or 2.
