If there is an argument to be made that this is an elite level contract, it likely comes in the form of the guaranteed money.

There are at least six players with higher guarantees, but I don’t think that there are ten.

Top ten guaranteed dollars is a good metric for this being elite level contract.

Still, the devil is in the details. Once the contract is public, we can look at things like likely to be earned money versus not likely to be earned money, and this may give us a better sense of what the Niners really think of Purdy.

Finally found a sortable list on Spotrac. It looks like Purdy sits in 8th place for Practically Guaranteed Money, just behind Lawrence and Jackson, and just ahead of Hurts and Goff. To me it looks like he is solidly in the second tier for Practically Guaranteed money, as well as being solidly second tier for the top line number.

Interestingly, Bosa is in second place for non-QBs for practically guaranteed money, at $122.5 million.

I don't see how this isn't a market contract for a QB who has been to the Super Bowl, is likely just a fluke injury away from a second one, is 4-2 in the playoffs, made the playoffs in 3 out of 4 years, holds the team record for passing yards and passer rating...

Maybe it's Shanahan (Echos of maybe it's Belichick), or maybe he's just a damn good QB who's game isn't the flashiest. It will be interesting to see how it is constructed, and what the cap implications are for the rest of the team. Other than the Trey Lance fiasco, the Niner's have managed their draft, trade, and cap space far better than the Hawks. The Trey Lance fiasco would have been career ending for some people, if Purdy hadn't come along.

Look at their 2026 salary cap distribution, though. That's not a good team and is a product of poor drafting over a several year stretch. They're going to need to practically rebuild their entire OL. Aside, they don't spend in free agency like they used to. Purdy's contract can be abandoned after two years.

The details are now available. It's a 4 year $180.4M deal with non-guaranteed team options in years 5 & 6. The team can get out of the deal after 2 years at $115.3M if they don't think Purdy is/will be at least a $32.5M per year QB going forward. At this point it's a fair deal for both sides.

Other than their major contracts, both the digits and sheep must be paying the back half of their rosters actual California minimum wage. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
