Look at the schedule and make an educated guess

Keep in mind Vegas is no dummy, you may win but you aren’t going to win a lottery against them

Back in Seattle.
Keep in mind, it's not Pete Prisco coming up with these odds, it's Vegas, and they arent in the business of losing money. Last season, 16 teams exceeded their Vegas win odds while 16 fell short of them, which is fairly typical.

Gambling on preseason odds feels like a sucker bet to me. If everything goes to plan, and everyone stays healthy and makes their expected jumps, while nobody regresses, then yeah, that 7.5 is laughably low.

How often does all that happen though? Even before seeing if the upgrades even work and the offense is able to stay clicking with a new QB, and a small-school rookie being the only notable personnel change to an OL that has been a straight liability for at least half a decade now, if two players from the group of JSN, Cross, Leo, EJ, and Spoon take a wrong step into the turf, take a hit awkwardly, or have someone accidentally roll up on them, fewer than 7.5 wins is absolutely a possibility. If it happens to Darnold, it's almost a certainty.

It's a very risky bet. Most of you probably aren't degenerates like me though, who get addicted to anything that's even a mild thrill.
Agreed. Over 10 or so months you can see that money double in a much more conservative "gamble".

They're either confident we'll have a losing season or that the majority of betters have no idea wtf they're doing and will take the under whether it's 7.5, 8.5, or 9.5.

Again? Will they ever learn?

Definitely take the over.
Vegas doesn't want to guess right they want an equal number of bets on each side so they are guaranteed to rake in the spread.

I think we will get more than 7.5 wins but unless it goes up in the next few days (as far more people bet on the over than the under) Vegas got it right.

The line moves with the money coming in. If 10,000 people place a $1 bet, it doesn't move the line like 1 person placing a million dollar bet.
That’s how the line moves, not how it is initially set. The initial line is set at the point where Vegas believes that equal amounts will be bet on both the under and over, then moves based on the money flow of the actual bets.

Vegas doesn't set odds based on how they think the team will do. They set odds based on how they think people will bet.
Which almost immediately turns into based on how people ARE betting. All the lines are about Vegas making sure the money stays approximately even so no matter what happens, they come out ahead. People blaming "Vegas" for insulting the Seahawks is laughably wrong...as is hating Goodell when all he is, is a mouthpiece for the owners.

So what you're saying is they set odds based on how they think they will do.

Either way, the correct bet is SUPER BOWL WINNER.
They set odds based on how they think people will bet, not how they think the teams will do. Of course a lot of how people bet is how the punters think team will do but that is different. If millions of Cowboys fans bet on their team every year becasue it is the loyal thing to do that will affect the Vegas Win/loss totals.

I am also less optimistic this season than a lot of peple on .net. Will we see 2024 Darnold or the one that played for the Jets and Panthers? We have taken a downgrade at WR while ony filling one of the many holes in the O-Line. My prediction is about 9 wins this season.

The gambling website, BetMGM once again has 7.5 as the number to beat, citing that Seattle Seahawks have undergone some pretty significant roster reorganizing this offseason. Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf - the final holdovers from the Pete Carroll era - have all found new homes.

7.5? really?

That is a gift. I'll take that action.

Not sure if you are just amplifying my point or something else, but yes, this is my point.

Vegas doesn’t set or move the line based on how they predict the teams will perform. They set it entirely on how they think the money will come in, and move it based on how the actual money comes in.

This will be a fun thread to come back and check out because there is ZERO chance that the Seahawks have under 8 wins. Unless Vegas knows something we don't.

Sometimes Vegas is wrong, and this is one of them!

Vegas had the Vikings at 6.5 the season prior so they don't know sh*t.

But like others stated, it's more what Vegas thinks people will bet which demonstrates how little people know about the Seahawks....that, or they just love throwing money away.
