Howell is a training camp arm at this point. Drew is a little more experienced, and probably better suited to be the backup.
I can't see Howell staying on the team, I expect someone will give up a 6th rounder for him, or at least a 7th.
Are you talking practices? Cuz I sure didn't get to see what Howell could do over the course of the year. Oh hell no. What I saw was our (new) coach and perhaps our GM walking around on eggshells not daring to piss geno off by pulling him out of a game so Howell could get some much needed minutes. There were at least a half dozen games we put Geno and his looming bonus ahead of the Seattle Seahawks. My thoughts exactly. We traded for Howell and I assume they did so hoping he might be able to progress into a starter for us. Instead we saw what he had for a year and paid Darnold instead. Ask me last week and I would have been surprised to see Howell go anywhere. Now I’d be surprised if he isn’t gone before the end of the draft.

Hey Sam! Welcome to the party brother! Are you talking practices? Cuz I sure didn't get to see what Howell could do over the course of the year. Oh hell no. Yeah that game was fun and drew was inspiring afterwardsI like Drew! No problem with him being our backup. Let him and Howell fight it out for 2nd string. I’ll always remember that Eagles game.
I don't think we draft a QB now this year. Can't see us having Darnold, Lock, Howell and a rookie QB on the roster and Hall on the PS
I sit here reading your comments and I'm wondering to myself :The QB on our PS is a goner, for sure.
The other three, Lock, Howell, Darnold will battle it out for the starting; one of the three will go to the PS. My heart goes with Lock, after all our in-house QB guru, Mr. John Schneider, traded for him not once but twice. Although My left brain goes with Darnold, he was drafted higher and just had a good season. My right brain firmly voting for Howell, dude has what it takes to go all the way. The heart and, left/right brain battling it out.
Aren't we the envy of teams? They would be lucky to have one franchise QB, we have THREE!
I sure look forward to the day when we have a top five qb on the roster again. If JS would put as much effort into acquiring one as he does churning over mediocre players, we might actually get somewhere. Tiresome.
So a quarterback who sucks is now backing up a quarterback who also sucks? Got it!
That’s what Flynn thought too.
I do agree that Darnold is our starter barring injury but stranger things have happened.
Against what I believe, I don’t see JS taking a QB.If we don't pick up a QB in the draft, I think it's more likely this goes down to final cut downs. We'd be lucky to get a sixth rounder for Howell at this point. Schneider doesn't like having more than two rostered QBs, but we've had backup competitions before.
This cements the fact that we’re not taking a QB.Head scratcher for sure. Lock sucks. Highly doubt we take a QB now. we now have 5 QBs on the roster. Really odd.
