After a lol moment and trying to be pragmatic about this signing... I think this is a good move.
Darnold only has one good year under his belt and could be injured behind this OL.
Howell was thrown to the wolves by some idiots in Washington in his 2nd year only to survive a massive pressure/sacks/INT's shellshocking.

Drew Lock is a gunslinger with good size who showed flashes when forced into action with the Donkeys.

John will only carry two QB's on the roster so this is kind of a rock-paper-scissors route of promoting competition and maybe upgrading #2 QB.

So much for drafting a QB.
Back to crying about the OL.
I swear sometimes it's like watching a 6th grader trade baseball cards.
That's probably not fair as he did build a Superbowl winner. But then again thinking about the OLine, I can just smell the bubble gum from a freshly opened pack of baseball cards.

Oh and I would say it’s also hedging bets on drafting QB. I think Seattle wants to draft one but a lot of them are probably gonna be gone by pick 50 (Ewers, Dart, Howard) and I don’t see them using 18 on one. So maybe 4th Round they’ll go for the likes of Rouke, Riley, or McCord but if none of those tier 3 guys are there then at least they got 3 QBs on the roster.

Lock had five starts last season, went into God mode in one and was awful in the other four. Good chance he doesn't make the team, and there's probably a reason he was still available, but doesn't hurt to have the competition. I'm guessing practically no guaranteed money.

Here and there
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Schneider finally has ALL THREE Schneider QBs under one roof, a bonus for getting rid of Geno Smith. All 12s know that Lock, Darnold, and Howell, all three of them, will shine given better coaching and snaps.

Which one of these three has the highest ceiling???????? My money on my boy Howell.

I ain't settling for anything less than 11-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I approve this message ;)

The Giants were awful all around him besides Nabors, I don't think
we can blame any QB who played there the last few years.

The QB on our PS is a goner, for sure.

The other three, Lock, Howell, Darnold will battle it out for the starting; one of the three will go to the PS. My heart goes with Lock, after all our in-house QB guru, Mr. John Schneider, traded for him not once but twice. Although My left brain goes with Darnold, he was drafted higher and just had a good season. My right brain firmly voting for Howell, dude has what it takes to go all the way. The heart and, left/right brain battling it out.

Aren't we the envy of teams? They would be lucky to have one franchise QB, we have THREE!

Lock was awful by basically every metric independent of what the Giants had going. It's also telling that while trying to improve, the team signed two washed-up egomaniacs at QB rather than bringing back Lock at a fraction of the price.

I like Lock, he has a high-end skillset and I think he could be a force if it ever clicks mentally for him, but the fact that it hasn't by now doesn't give me much hope that it ever will. If it comes down to Lock and Howell for one roster spot, I'd give Lock maybe a 30% of being on the team next season.

Interesting. Can't imagine we keep both Lock and Howell.

My thoughts exactly. We traded for Howell and I assume they did so hoping he might be able to progress into a starter for us. Instead we saw what he had for a year and paid Darnold instead. Ask me last week and I would have been surprised to see Howell go anywhere. Now I’d be surprised if he isn’t gone before the end of the draft.
