I am not convinced that Kupp is better value than Lockett. Kupp is only a year younger and Lockett has a better history of playing through seasons.

Lockett lost that breakaway step last year and it was tough to watch. Also the hands weren't as sharp.

Kupp at least has a good chance at being a solid contributor if not flashes of his old self.

Kupp's addition makes the WR group better. Good signing.

Lockett didn't get the targets he had been in the past. I believe the changing of the OC played a major factor. In 2023, he led the team in receptions and was solid. The emergence of JSN and having DK hurt Lockett. There's only one ball and someone had to take less. In Grubb's view that meant Lockett was the guy that got less of the pie. You can't catch what is not thrown your way. To Lockett's credit he never complained. He is the consummate professional. I wish more players were like Tyler Lockett.

I'm hoping for escalating salary, so he only sees 3rd year if he's playing at a high level, and for a decent chunk of his compensation being various bonuses that would actually require him being healthy.
Does anyone know if doing rehab qualifies for workout bonuses? Minor detail, I know. Just curious.

My heart says ya! My head says that's a lot of money to pay a 31 year old WR . To put it in prospective Tyler Lockett is only a year older.

DK was getting $24M from us and just got extended in Pissburgh for $33M. Kupp is the same net value. This is...a good move. Expensive? Yes. But we needed wide receivers as much as we needed offensive linemen. One doesn't eliminate the other. We had NOBODY to draw coverage off of JSN. Valdes-Scantling is getting way overrated on this board.

Pretty obvious that John and Mike feel comfortable with our current offensive linemen. The offense was a disaster last year in both coaching and scheming; it's possible they'll be in a much better position this year. I really just don't think the free agency class was that good for this position.
