I’ve realized football has changed a little bit, people are more fans of players and not teams. It’s obvious this last year when people jumped on Macdonald at the first sign of trouble were the same guys who were pissed Pete was let go. If the new QB fails the really pro Geno crowd will jump at the first sign for the same reason.

It’s human nature I guess but this stuff is more fun when you focus on your team I think.

Anyone solely rooting for the name on the back of the jersey is setting themselves up for disappointment.

I don't mind Darnold to contiue the bridge. I just only want to see it on a contract that they can get out of every season. If they really commit to him for the next 3 years, then I think that could be disastrous.

While I understand the apprehension with Darnold, he might be best move the 'Hawks can make. He's very comparable to Geno as a player, and will likely command a similar contract and cap hit, but is 7 years younger and has far more upside. And he comes with a 3rd round pick.

IMO, a far better plan than hoping the team hits on a QB in a weak class, rolling with Sam Howell, or any other free agent options out there.

I have always liked Darnold. I actually think of him similarly to Geno in terms of them having underrated arm talent.

What worries me with Darnold is that he doesn't handle pressure well. We'll need to fix the OL in a real hurry if he's to carry over his Minnesota production.

There is optimism, however. Geno used to be subpar in this department and grew it into a primary strength as he continued to start. We could see that with Sam.

That being said, if Darnold comes in at the same-ish price as Geno would've been, I really would have liked to keep the guy I know can handle a putrid line and still manage a game well.

I believe JS has a hard line on what he's willing to pay a QB. If the rumors of Geno Smith wanting 40+ million a year are true and JS only offered a max of 35 Million, then I think we won't pay more than that for Sam Darnold. Those same rumors are saying that Darnold "has a soft market" value. We'll see what happens. I'm hopeful JS will start looking at QBs in the draft to develop. I'm tired of someone else's retreads.

If we sign DarnOld I will puke.
I am with on that because the potential to overpay for an overrated player puts the Seahawks in the danger zone of cap purgatory.

A hardline on Geno, that is. Geno's issue is he's not really a remarkable QB. He wasn't bad, but he also wasn't that great either. He was a slightly above average QB that could pilot your offense, nothing more, nothing less. He's not the type of guy to elevate his team, typically the way the team went is the way he'd go. I'd argue that paying a QB that is going to be in his mid 30s, 40+ million a year with a fairly unremarkable track record would be a mistake on Seattle's part. Geno was not that great as a QB.

It looks as if the NFL agrees with this sentiment. In a league starved for QB's, Geno Smith only netted a 3rd round pick. It looks as if the Raiders were the only suitor for his services. It's not just his age either, Stafford netted at a similar age, two first round picks plus Jared Goff. Goff folded in the biggest moments for the Rams, it's no surprise that a QB like Stafford was able to take the helm and lead them to a SuperBowl win.

Geno is what he is, the new Kirk Cousins. A QB that is just good enough, but falls short in big situations. Now people point to his 4th Quarter comeback record and I have to scoff at that. Kirk Cousins, a QB blasted for faltering in big situations was one of the leader in 4th quarter comebacks. I'd argue that the 4th quarter comeback stat is not a great way to gage how good a guy is in big situations and clearly the NFL thinks the same thing about Smith.

Now, people that argue "hey look at Goff with the right situation!" Yeah, Goff had the perfect situation, a rare set of circumstances. He has one of the hottest offensive minds in football right now, paired with a strong offensive line, good running game and elite receiver corps. Geno is unlikely to get that here in Seattle. Even with a perfect set of circumstances, Goff played a horrible game against Washington.

His tendency to falter at just the right times came out. We needed to move on from him whether this your or the next.

Now, the issue here is a I hope that Darnold isn't the option for Seattle. Darnold was seeing ghost in the playoffs, his old habits reared their ugly heads. He could tell what was going on, it was an absolutely horrid performance by all metrics. He looked like a rookie that had never played an NFL game before. He had no answer and he looked shell shocked. His processing speed seems a bit slow. I'm not even sure how much of a bridge QB he would be and at what price would he come? We're potentially putting ourselves in an even worse position that we were with Geno.

i keep saying this and I'll say it again. Seattle really dropped the ball last year by not moving up in the draft last year to pick up a QB. Schneider has kicked the QB situation so far down the road that now we're stuck with Sam Howell and potentially Darnold. That is not a good position to be in as a franchise, particularly given that this is a very weak QB class and was known to be a pretty weak class even the year prior.

If JS overpays for Darnold it will cripple the franchise. I am calling it now.

In anticipation of John Schneider's signing of Darnold, this weekend club darNO is having open enrollment. All members of .NET are welcome to join but former card carrying members of club geNO gets free drinks.
