We went YOUNG, Raiders went old, very old. Pete hired Chip Kelly as his OC after interviewing Bevell.

Question:
Since they are going old, will Wilson or Geno be on their radar?
Can Chip make Wilson great again or Geno better?

I haven't watched much of CFB lately, but the way Kelly killed his defenses in Philly with his silly Quack Attack offenses, I'm very surprised that a defensive minded coach like Pete would sit still for a hire like this.

It really came out of nowhere, another factor that makes me wonder who's calling the shots.

Chip knows how to pound the rock and protect a quarterback. They're not that philosophically different. They're actually a pretty ideal pairing in terms of football philosophy.

Chip Kelly is still one of the most innovative minds in football. He's had success everywhere he's been, including in the NFL. In his first year with the Eagles, he took a 4-12 team and went 10-6 and came in first in the NFC East. The Eagles were also 10-6 the following year.

I don't give much weight to the disastrous season he had with the 49ers. He took over a terrible team that had been destroyed by Trent Baalke and Jim Tomsula, and his QB for half the season was Blaine Gabbert.

I think offensive coordinator is the right spot for him. He's a creative mind, but not necessarily up to all the BS you need to put up with to be a head coach. He pretty much acknowledged as much when he quit his HC job at UCLA to become OC at Ohio State.

Pete was interested in Chip when he took over the Seahawks, although nothing came of it. A lot of well-respected NFL coaches and GMs have been interested in Chip for a long time.

And at age 61, Kelly's not one of those young whippersnappers that everyone wants these days, but he's not ancient, and I think experience still counts for something. He's seen it all, and tried it all.

I couldn't find any links, but I read somewhere that Pete interviewed Chip around the beginning of his career in Seattle.

One of Chip's uniqueness is that he wants to be an OC, and he will likely stick around.

If Chip's 30 years younger, our head coach might just honor him with an interview.

LeSean McCoy spoke of Chip Kelly as being an authoritarian/disciplinarian and that rubbed players the wrong way.

So, Carroll, trying to establish a culture of being free to be who they are, yet, needs to be disciplined and “controlled” maybe exactly why Carroll hired Kelly.

Not sure if that will work since McCoy said he personally does not like a coach like that.

We shall see.

There are reasons why Chip is no longer a HC, and this may be one of them.

Yes, Eagles players complained that Kelly was a "control freak." Also, coming straight from college, Kelly probably treated the athletes like college kids and tried to impose stuff on them. We've seen that approach doesn't work in the NFL with a lot of coaches, like Urban Meyer and Greg Schiano.

It's likely not as much of an issue as an OC as it is as a HC where you have to set the tone and establish the culture.
