As of now, Six player will take up 67% of our 2025 cap. Not one of them made the Probowl but Big Cat did get selected as an alternate

The six players are Geno, Metcalf, Lockett, Nwosu, Big Cat and Dre’Mont Jones

This has to change

Agree to disagree. The cap hits for the players who remain in 2025 will be altered as their contracts are restructured. I expect 2 of the players to be released, although returning with big pay cuts is a possibility. I'll take the Under on those 6 players accounting for such a high proportion. Cap hits are a bad tool to use for evaluation.

I suspect Geno, DK and Big Cat will be here and the rest of that group will be on the chopping block. I can’t imagine the team getting rid of Lockett and DK this offseason.

Dre and Nwosu see like they are on the outside looking in…

Metcalf, lockett and Jones can all go far as I'm concerned. We need capitol for OLine and Dline studs. Lockett will go down as one of the best to ever do it in seattle, but I fear his time has come.

Metcalf is a mental midget, and Jones has been a no show accept for a couple plays here and there. You're not going to find another QB better than Geno this off season, restructure his last year, and use the capitol to beef up the trenches, while looking to draft your QB in 2026.

How does this compare to other teams? For all I know it might be normal, or even better than most. Maybe other teams have 2/3 of their cap tied up in 4 or 5 players...

I’m not really concerned about it. Numbers will change in the off season and there’s way too many different ways to bring numbers down for me to worry before we get into the meat of the off season

Extended: Geno and D.K:
  • They both have hits over $31 million. I do expect both guys to be extended and have lower hits for 2025 and 2026.
Cuts: Lockett, Nwosu, Dre Jones, Fant: Total money saved 45.9 mil saved.
  • Uchenna has a guaranteed trigger that kicks in Feb. that will make cutting later a moot point because you save very little. I have a hard time seeing why he would want to re-negotiate his contract. He might appeal on the trade but I doubt it. I do think he eventually gets cut. You save $8.4 mil if you cut him prior to Feb. 14th.
  • Tyler's roster bonus triggers in March and I think he's cut much earlier out of courtesy so he can explore F.A early. You save $17 mil if you cut him prior to Mar. 18th.
  • Jones just hasn't made an impact under Carroll or Macdonald. You cut him to save $11.5 mil.
  • Noah Fant has a $13 mil cap hit for 2025 and only has a $4.5 mil dead cap hit. How many times when Fant missed a game this season when you asked yourself you really missed him and his production? Fine TE but not at that price and what we ask him to do. It's a great top heavy TE class. You can get a real game changer at half of the price of Fant. You save $9 mil by cutting him.
Restructure: Williams: Around $9 mill saved.
  • Leo had a great season and has a roster guarantee that triggers in Feb. You can save around $9 mil or more if you restructure and more if you add void years.
Smaller cuts: Jenkins, G. Fant, Robertson-Harris: Total money saved 15.8 mil saved.
  • Jenkins: Save $5.4 mil
  • Fant: $3.8 mil
  • Robertson-Harris: $6.6 mil

These are just some obvious moves I predict will happen so the team can create cap space. Remember they still need to save anywhere between $10-15 mil for IR/Draft. They still need to re-sign Ernest. Jones. They may opt to extend Boye Mafe or Riq Woolen. They are in a pretty good spot roster wise and can afford to load up on O-Line through F.A or make a move for a QB if they choose.

I don’t see Seattle throwing big money at any of the areas they need to fix especially offensive line. Schneider has never done that and I don’t expect him to start doing so even as the state of the o line being as awful as it currently is. I just have no faith he’ll start now with free agency. He might draft them but to pay free agents for offensive line, I sadly, don’t see it happening.

Thats not that uncommon for good teams. Difference is we aren't very good and outside of Williams none of them are elite. That is the real issue.

That's simply not true. First off I don't think our draft failures were on Schneider alone, I think Carroll played a very big role. We all know pete liked his shiny new skill players, and neglected the trenches for years. Hell he even drafted and tried to convert D lineman to Offense.

Secondly, soon as pete was gone they drafted lineman and a line backer early in the draft. Players we needed. Carroll drafted a corner and a reciever when we could have got Carter. So I'm not buying the Schneider cant draft line. I put that on Carroll. This off season we shall see.

one thing they aren't going to do is extend Geno.

You are on dot net, here, Geno is geNO. He is a cut candidate not a candidate for contract extension.

I'm not attached to the idea of Geno next season but being realistic, I don't think they'll let him go without a plan. The easier thing to do is reduce his cap, extend him, and give an easy out.

They do save over $25 mill if they let him go. We'll see.

What is this supposed to prove? My point still stands. I don't think the Hawks are tied to Geno long term but probably looking for an exit plan. Until then you can still extend him, lowering his cap hit for 2025, protect yourself by giving yourself an easy out.

I'm not attached to the idea of Geno next season but being realistic, I don't think they'll let him go without a plan. The easier thing to do is reduce his cap, extend him, and give an easy out.

They do save over $25 mill if they let him go. We'll see.
I agree this is the most logical thing they do. I’m sure they think they’re close if they can just get a functioning offensive line and a piece or two for macdonalds defense.
