You don't think the fan base and ownership enjoy the two Schneider show, as Willi finds them, John signs them?I doubt Schneider survives after this year.
If there is a “sheer lack of dominant players” on this team, and I agree, then doesn’t that prove that his approach is crap? For years, Schneider had a mission:
Get high-ceiling guys in bunches. The strategy was always to get high-ceiling guys, knowing most would shake out, but the winners would be all NFL players who would dominate their position. We would blow out on a few first and second rounders, but get a 4th or 5th round pick that turns into a player better than most 1st rounders at that position.
It worked.
It is a tremendously effective strategy for a team looking for stars (weirdly would be fantastic for the team now). The weakness is that you don't know who is going to pop.
That strategy has a downside, it is near impossible to fill holes with that approach.
So yes, finding a center or LB or whatever in a position of need likely isn't going to happen with that approach.
But in only 2-3 years you WILL get 2 or 3 'field tilters' that you can base a winning franchise around.
Can JS change his approach and succeed in the normal filling holes approach? No idea.
But looking at this roster, and the sheer lack of dominant players, would you want him to?
Of course we are here in part because "they" thought the grass WAS greener. Schneider was obviously sticking to the company line when he said that the team underachieved last year and was too talented to finish only 9-8. The problem is that from the outside we really don't know who "they" are, so it's really hard to say how "they" will react. You get rid of JS then he will want his own coach. That coach will want his staff and in turn his own players. With an owner that will sell the team soon that shows dysfunction. That’s not good for business. Be careful what you wish for. The grass isn’t always greener.
Nope. The way the roster has been shaken up mid season, does it give you guys hope that it's gonna force JS to rethink his talent evaluation?
Schneider actually cares about OL, just that he or his scouts sucked at evaluating linemen. If they do get rid of John hopefully they get a GM that actually cares about Olineman and can actually spot talent. Or have scouts that can. For some reason only 1 lineman has been worth it and that is cross. Since 2010. Crazy.
If the story about engineering a trade for Samuel along with Metcalf is true? (Trade agreed upon the Raiders backed out) that would have been the other field tilterIf there is a “sheer lack of dominant players” on this team, and I agree, then doesn’t that prove that his approach is crap?
And no, his late round hits didn’t play at 1st round levels. At least not for more than TEN years. maybe Carson being an exception. (Though you might remind me of some and I’d likely agree but cannot think of any late round field tilters the last decade)
