But when Charb scored the TD it was 12 points with XP and 13. That was a mistake for HC

Everybody's take on our abysmal o-line...... I concur. It will cost us multiple games. The only hope is if a few of our talented rooks are ready sooner than later.

Now that Week1 has passed teams can sign FA veterans and their contracts won't be guaranteed for the season.

I don't remember a time when I was so concerned with the other team punting. I remember watching Lockett back in the day have time to actually run a punt back. Is it having to do with our blockers? Hard to see DeeJay Dallas call fair catch for years and then return a 97 yarder with Arz. Would rather see Macintosh vs Dee Williams.

This won't be popular, but Pete and his coaching staff were definitely a problem. The Broncos win if they were still here.
It does give me hope that they adjusted for the 2d half and improved markedly. Apparently they adjusted the line splits and certainly changed the play calling and really turned things around. That gives me a bit of comfort that they are on the issue and are looking for solutions and workarounds.

I doubt I'm the only one who said that last year that team misses MANY of those open field tackles. The Broncos called a lot of plays that got a WR or TE in a one on one spot, and our guys made the plays. The tackling is noticeably better across the board. The new guys look legit. Shoot, the LB's who barely got any work in pre-season looked damn good.
Teams are going to give up plays, all of them. But this team only really had a few plays all game where someone was wide open. Last year, it was what seemed like wide open guys all damn game long.

I was particularly pleased to see Hall have an impactful performance. We need more of that from him.

This isn't a hot take but a hot guess.
I think MM and the defense was holding back on a lot of what they do.
Here's why.
I think I heard a sound bite where Witherspoon said something to the effect of " we haven't done hardly anything of what we can do " . I think MM and Co were pretty confident they could put the clamps on Nix in his first start on the road , this keeping a lot of special surprises for their road game in NE.
As well as the defense did , they'll only get better as the season progresses.
As deficient as the offense was in certain areas last season , they still put up points . Imagine if THIS defense was paired with last year's offense . PC would still be PC-ing.
I know , it's impossible but funny to consider .

So, I originally only saw the game in spurts on my phone as I worked on Sunday, so when I finally watched the game for real, a lot of the emotion was out of it (for me), so my takeaways are thus:
Offense
+ Smith, Lockett, and Walker is a pretty good offensive 'trio' that a number of teams would love to have, we are lucky to have it here. (And you could replace Lockett with Metcalf, our real number 1 WR, and this remains true, but Lockett becomes 'that guy' in a lot of clutch situations).
+ As has been mentioned, it was nice to see a halftime adjustment that actually represented a useful change.
- Our offensive line was... 'terrible' might actually be underselling it. It should also be noted that Denver was NOT a good defense last year and they were average-to-bad at generating QB pressure. To generate pressure the way they did and with the speed they did was not a good sign.
- Even though I was happy with the adjustment at half time, there were some flat out confusing play calls in the game that I didn't agree with. Lining up in shotgun back on our own goal line multiple times, the weird screen pass calls (one of which completely killed one of our best drives of the first half). I'm going to chalk some of this up to Grubb having his 'welcome to the NFL' moment and hope he makes some adjustments going into the first half next week.
Defense
+ Our defense is fast and aggressive. Flying to the ball. I loved it.
+ Our ILB group looked so much better than last year's version. I don't think the overall talent level is better but the dynamic we had last year was just so exploitable by basically any team that wanted to exploit it.
+ Our DL looked good, too, and seeing Murphy draw double teams so consistently is going to open up so many opportunities for Williams and Edge players.
Special Teams
+ Jason Myers is--so far--looking like even year Jason.
- We had some growing pains in the return game. Having Dallas not be there (better returner than most realize/want to give credit for) in addition to some of the new rules means this might be an aspect of the game that doesn't settle down until week 8 or later.
Overall
Can't take too much from a Week 1 game with such an inexperienced coaching staff. Do we look at the safeties, the atrocious OL play, and the weird miscues on special teams and extrapolate that out to the rest of the season? Or do we look at the halftime adjustments and the newfound identity on defense and extrapolate that out?
We're going to need at least another 3 weeks before we can begin to say with any confidence which way this is going to go. But I think if you were more positive about our team's prospects than most, there was still plenty in this game to help you stay positive and thus... I will.
