When Beastmode retired and Carson was hurt, we changed up to more pass heavy, why? Because our bad line didn't have a PHYSICAL BACK THAT COULD MAKE YARDS ON THEIR OWN. Once those backs were not available, we were easy to defend. We had yards between the 20's, we shot ourselves in the foot time and time again with Penalties, long 3rd downs, 3 and outs all game long, we failed at 3rd and short consistently where when we won we were getting those short yardage conversions. Goes back to our investment in the O line and Pete's control, of personnel and the offense along with Wilsons limitations and being figured out.
Pete failed the team with his stubborn inflexibility, not with changing Coaches and OC's DC's, but his narrow focus on schemes. He wanted what the Rams had, but handcuffed his OC, he wanted what Schotty had, but handcuffed the OC, He succeeded with Bevell until his scheme was countered and Wilson figured out along with losing the teams confidence after the SB loss.
In fact he really does remind me of Bud Grant and Chuck Knox in as much as being very inflexible about that aspect of his coaching.
