Is it just me, or are there more Achilles tendon injuries this year than usual?

I have noticed since the CBA was modified and not allowing players to train in the off season under team supervision I have seen more injuries

There are about 15-16 ruptured Achilles tendon injuries a year in the NFL.

You're just noticing it more because two high profile QBs happen to be among the injured this year. (Rodgers and Cousins)

Thanks for the info, gonna go back and check out the photos of Achilles’ tendons… It was actually RB Cam Akers’ second injury to the Achilles that peaked my interest. What do you think about Cam Akers, do you think he’ll be able to play again? Injuries suck, regardless who you root for on Sunday.

I hate that injuries are such a large part of the game.

As for Cam Akers, he had a remarkably quick recovery from his last Achilles rupture, coming back after just 6 months. So he has shown he can come back from it. I was surprised to read that the an Achilles tendon rupture can be career ending in a large percentage of cases (25%), according to one study:

Injuries in general seem to have gone up when the CBA or whatever changed or cutback on padded/ contact practices. The body with the extra padded practices and contact practices could adapt and adjust accordingly. Now with less we’re seeing a result of more injuries than previously league wide.

IMO (only an opinion) i feel the lessened practices and what not wasn’t about “safety” but rather about having to do less work for the same amount of money. If I go slam my shoulder repeatedly into something with the same force day in day out, my body will adjust/adapt. If I go outside and run shoulder first into the tree when all I’ve done is run around it with no contact I’m probably going to be injured.
