..I don’t think he was a “steal” at 20. There are a few teams that I’m sure wanted him low first to high 2nd. As soon as he was off the board it SEEMED like teams were snagging WRs more frequently. He was touted as the best WR in this draft wasn’t he?

He was a steal. Had he not been injured in the 2022 season he very likely would have gone top 10. Seattle getting him at 20 is a total steal and a massive amount of value.

Steal is relative to the perception of value...a steal is often alluded to a player whose value wasn't "shared" by other GM's needing that same player...or a "gem" who draft experts were embarrassed to have "overlooked".

In that regard we identified by picking from that group the WR we felt was best. First round selections are expected to be high impact players who have a premium skill set which elevates his positional value. JSN definitely mirrors the type of high draft expectations...he "fell" to us without John having to trade up...adding to his value just by that alone.

From the perspective of selection within the first round...yes JSN was probably worthy of a top 5 pick. In a draft hyped by expanding "top 5 value" of the QB position beyond Young/Stroud...JS and Pete got their cake (Spoon) and got to eat it too (by "landing" JSN)...so definitely a steal in that context!

Well it’s certainly a product of the overall outlook we have.
I’d say we all are generally pretty optimistic and happy.

WTF, are you talking about Medic?

It’s easy to figure out.
When we are down and pessimistic we argue about “fire Pete”.

We’re arguing now about steal/not a steal. Lol

People were unsure about him because of production numbers and the injury. John and Pete go in deep on these things and are patient with the players returning to form. They are working him up slowly and now it appears he is ready to go all out again. He may be a player that like others need a ramp up at the beginning of a season or layoff time to properly acclimate his muscles in this case Hammies to quick twitch work loads. Seems we have a issue as a team with Hamstring injuries frequently.

i feel bad for Eskridge.
Dee

This is his make it or break it year. I doubt he will have that many opportunities w/ JSN pick. We should have gotten Humphries which was the sensible pick but we got cute and decided to do our first pick on a #3 receiver.

Exactly. Head Case. Diva. Can't catch a cold. Horrible pick. Pete and John are clueless. They could have had x player. Injury prone. blah blah blah
You know I will. Opportunities for game changing D lineman and linebackers available and they pick a position of strength with future star Dee Eskridge and Dareke Young vying for that 3rd receiver spot? Color me unimpressed if he plays anything less than Jerry Rice in his prime

Conversation overheard at Seahawks' predraft meeting this year:

PC: We suck so bad at picking defensive linemen, we're not going to pick any this year, at least not in the first round.

Scout 1: But Jalen Carter!

PC: No! Weren't you the same guy who wanted us to pick LJ Collier?

Scout 2: But what about Calijah Kancey at number 20?

PC: Didn't you push for Malik McDowell in 2017?

Scout 2: Yes, but . . .

JS: No, you suck! We're flipping the script, only DBs and offensive weapons in the first round.
