What sucks is he looks like he could be a hall of fame kicker some day. Those guys often are scoring leaders, so I don't see how this is a good thing?

In all fairness a kicker or punter can be responsible for a couple games a year (easily).

If they had concerns that they would not be able to find a reliable one, taking one in the draft that they trust is a good move.

Very few positions can singled handedly win/lose games for you.
Actually agreed. Sometimes I get mad at Myers but overall he’s been a solid kicker for the most part.

Believing the Lance experiment to be over, I was afraid they might trade back and draft Haener to push Purdy. So as good as he is, I was pretty stoked they went with Moody. I think Purdy and Haener would have been a nice 1-2 punch for them but instead questions remain at their most important position. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

I don't know enough about this kid to defend or blast this move by the Niners but I am of the belief that having a good kicker is of more value now than ever.

The rule changes to onside kicks, kickoffs, and extra point tries has made the separation between 'good' and 'elite' kickers more impactful to the final score than ever.

Of course, NFL is considering implementing some of the XFL's experimental rule changes which may completely reverse this trend but as of now, I think a lot of teams (and fans) underestimate where Ks truly lie in terms of importance.

Moody is a good kicker, but he's not (and won't be) elite.

I loved Kyle Shanahan's response to questions about drafting a kicker: "I still can't believe we didn't draft a running back."

I have no idea id he'll be good or not and would I have rather not taken a kicker in the 3rd? Yes.

Here's why tho...

1) They didn't have a 4th.
2) It was a comp 3rd, IE AFTER the third round.
3) Patriots took a kicker 12 picks later...AND a punter later.
4) Kicker was only place at that spot where they needed a starter.
5) Kicker they traded for earlier in offseason was for a swap of 7th rounders next year AND it was conditional...IE if he doesn't make the team it'll be for nothing. Was a backstop against not getting a kicker in the draft

Now...did I LOVE the pick in that spot? No. Do I understand it? Yes. Do I like the player? Very much yes.

Jim Harbaugh did say, "You can count on three things--death, taxes and Jake Moody."
