I like Van Ness.

The problem is the allure of drafting our future franchise QB is strong (think Richardson or Levis) as is the prospect of getting the top EDGE player in the draft (think Anderson). So, my guess we're going QB and DT in Round 1, or we're going EDGE/DT.

Van Ness is going in Round 1 (likely between 22 and 32)... and our opportunity to draft him does not align where Van Ness will be drafted. I predict that he'll be off the board before our pick at #37 overall.

Huh? We pick at 20. Seems that is the perfect place to assure we get him based on where you projected him.

watch him go to the stealers and pair with tj watt... ffs
Mike Tomlin, the Steelers head coach, was the only head coach at OLB/DE Will McDonald's Pro-Day. Tomlin never hides when he likes a prospect. So I can see the Steelers drafting McDonald at pick #17 if he is still available. Watt and McDonald would be insane.

Van Ness or McDonald @ #20..I'd be happy with either of these two guys.

McShay mocked him at 10 today to Philly.

As good as Skoronski is, he had poor feet placement and VanNess caught him off guard & was quickly in his grill before he could get them set, so like was said, it's only one play that Skoronski screwed up on (that we know of lol)

I am actually expecting Van Ness to go before 10. I put Van Ness and Tyree Wilson in the same group similar size, high motor, good bull rush DEs that could rush the passer at a 3 tech spot

could van ness play 3-4 OLB?
Probably could. IMO you want Van Ness always going towards the offensive back field I would use him like Pittsburgh uses TJ Watt they are similar size and tested comparably close at the combine

it wouldn’t bother me at all if they took him at 5 as a value pick

I wouldn't have a problem taking him at 20 but if they think they can get him lower they can always trade down. It would be quite in character for John and Pete between 2012 and 2019 every 1st round draft pick we got we traded either down or for a player.
