Id laugh if it came out, not that it has to, or if it really matters, that some players collectively took enough cuts to fit Bobby into the cap. Because even releasing Woods, Seahawks had their backs against the salary wall and this money didn’t just magically appear without someone sacrificing.

And I’m sure if adding Bobby meant having to release Adams, its still net positive in terms of gaining a player that has been consistently available, that can also figure into the pass-rush if we are valuing recent performance, that can set the tone as a hitter, that can lead and inspire off and on the field, that is better suited to solve run defense issues despite the fact they’ve lost a step in coverage.

For all Adams is when healthy, I think Bobby is the safer bet. Bobby can contribute to any scheme without being a focal point, he makes his teammates better but I think with Adams, he more or less, is scheme dependent and you have to kind of cater to his strengths and weaknesses and that always doesn’t make his teammates better around him and probably puts more strain on the defense to cover up the weaknesses.

TL:DR Adams is the type of player you have to scheme around to be successful. Bobby is just successful.
Yeah, guys aren't taking pay cuts. Restructure, which gives the player more money now, and lowers his cap hit, but pushes out the dead money is what is likely.

I disagree with @Fade more often than not, and enjoyed teasing his points. But the forum would be more fun if we all debate the other person's message instead of firing at the messenger. Don't you think?
I was just teasing him bro, just as you state that you also do.

While presenting questions to him in response to his post.

Don't you think if he took it the way you seemed to have taken it, he would of let me know?

Anyways thanks for not debating my post.

I am pretty sure the cap is for putting a roster together each season. I would rather have a competitive team then cap space that isn't used.
Every dollar is accounted for. There is no such thing as unused dollars. They roll over into the next year.

They are obviously in a position to make a luxury signing as they made one.
They aren't. This is their fill the roster with 1 yr rentals before the draft.

Teams routinely rework contracts, we have reworked many before.
Seattle is more conservative, compared to most other teams, so it is a bigger deal when they do it.

I am not confusing anything. Are you telling me Wagner had a down year for a LB last season?
Are you telling me the Seahawks will use him the exact same way. Why didn't they use him like that in '21?

Do you judge players based on how they played 2 years ago over the way they played last season?
You mean how he played on the Seahawks. ;)
How much slower is Wagner now? Do you have numbers to back up this claim? Are you saying that his 140 tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 Ints were due to his lack of speed?
He isn't covering Randall Cobb 40 yds downfield anymore that's for sure.

Do you think that maybe our Run defense took a hit with the loss of a player like Wagner, so they resigned him to bolster the run defense while also giving more draft flexibility?
The Seahawks were still struggling with their run fits going into the playoffs. As admitted by Carroll. It's a coaching issue.

You could call a 1 year contract "patchwork" I call it a player at a position of need that can help develop a future player that we will most certainly draft.
Players develop better by playing, and being well coached. Not sitting.

Every team that ends up in the playoffs have 1 year deals, it's kinda common occurrence with teams in the NFL.
It hasn't worked out well for the Seahawks over these last 7 years.

If off ball LBs have only so much impact explain why we kept him for all these years as he racked up HOF numbers, and accolades.
The defense has been mostly terrible for 5 years, Wagner was in his prime for most of that period.
I also cannot wait til April.
Who is your favorite pick on Defense since 2016 in the first 3 rounds?

I'm thrilled that Bobby came back to Seattle. He started his career by winning a SB after his 2nd year. His best years are probably behind him. He needs to go out with another SB win. I'm thinking 2-3 years (hoping 1-2). Cement his already solid legacy as a Hawk

I don’t even care if he’s not the same Bobby Wagner that he used to be. I don’t even care what his cap number is. They have people that take care of that stuff.
I’m glad he’s back for a number of reasons. With him on the roster for ‘23 the LB corp is already better than ‘22.
I believe that his real value will be similar to the value that Lawyer Malloy added to the team back at the beginning of this era of Seahawks football.

Good news, Bobby is back! He should of never left in the first place.

He was too pricey last year, JS needed to pare down + we were still dealing with Wilson & his Agent's greed, Bobby was just a 'Couldn't Help it Cap Casualty' last season.
Good to have him back on a way more agreeable contract...Loved & missed the guy, he can now take his place along side Cortez Kennedy, Walter Jones and Steve Largent as another Seahawks Hall of Famer.

How do I feel, cheering for the 2023 Seahawks with Bobby Wagner vs cheering for the 2022 no-Wagner Seahawks?

I feel fine. 🙂

@Fade I don’t get how you’re so mad about Bobby. Bobby was pff’s top ranked at his position last year and an all pro. To say nothing of the fact that we don’t have Jordyn. To say nothing of the fact that we actually Got better once Jordyn was absent Anyway. This is the most reasonable solution.

Fade has RMF. Resting Mad Face.

If this defense truly has made the transition to 3-4, then Bobby's a good fit to bring back to shore up the inside LB position to help in the run and blitz fits.

If this defense transitions back to 4-3 like it did at times last year because they were getting run the hell over? Then we're in big trouble, Wagner can't cover in space or run sideline to sideline like he used to.

But downhill and blowing up inside gaps? Hell yeah.

140 tackles, 6 sacks and played in all 17 games.
Sounds pretty good to me. And a total leader.
Wagner registered 140 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, 0 fumbles caused or recovered, 2 INTs, and 5 passes defensed on 1080 defensive snaps.

The other Rams ILB registered 114 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 QB hit, 1 fumble caused or recovered, 1 INT, and 2 passes defensed on 723 defensive snaps.

The Rams defensive system is designed for the ILBs to create stats.

I am calling the return of Bobby bitter sweet, sweet for the return of a still capable old friend, bitter for the failure of our youth movement and replacement project.

Another year, another youth movement.

It is tragic when a player goes down with a serious injury, but "failure of our youth movement" seems way over the top. Barton moving on is more normal than not for a middling off-ball LB. More importantly, Bobby's departure last season was not about youth but about cap space, Bobby acting as his own agent, and his refusal to play for a figure that matched his value. If he was willing to play last season for whatever he makes this year he would have been retained.

I believe that his real value will be similar to the value that Lawyer Malloy added to the team back at the beginning of this era of Seahawks football.
I agree that some of the value here is team chemistry and leadership.

For example, it upgrades our acquisition of Devin Bush who originally looked like a so-so reclamation project. Upside was high, but there were concerns in three areas:
1) Ability to regain athleticism and speed with another year of recovery
2) Physicality and technique vs. the run
3) Football IQ and instincts

Now line Bush up in the backfield next to Bobby Wagner, and you get some enormous leadership and on field guidance towards developing #3 and to a lesser extent #2.
