Not just a Safety, he plays all over:

Love, the Giants' 2019 fourth-round draft pick, played cornerback at Notre Dame, where coaches used him all over the field. He's thrived in the box because of his surprising physicality, similar to the way Peppers has, and with the Giants, Love has played nickel corner, free and strong safety, and even boundary corner when Graham was in a pinch against the Cowboys in the 2020 season finale.

In preparation for a designated post June 1 cut of JA?

Probably.

If not, Seahawks will have ~20% of their cap tied into the safety position.

All I've seen written about him since I heard of his visit here, is that he's someone the Giants couldn't afford to lose, and someone we'd be lucky to have. Seems as though we may have even gotten a bit of a bargain, as I've seen his value mentioned to be between 7 and 8 million. On the face it looks like another big piece of our defensive puzzle has been put into place. Only time will tell how well all these new faces interact together on the field.

PFF describes him as a “Swiss Army Knife on the back end who rarely misses a tackle (greatly needed).” 154 line ups in the slot, 494 at FS

13 missed tackles total the past 3 years is the 2nd fewest of all safeties with at least 150 tackles.

Yeah, I'm with others in thinking this very well could spell the end of the Jamal Adams experiment in Seattle... They'd save 8.4 million in cap space by releasing him and designating it a June 1st cut...

They now have 2 guys to fill Adams spot in Neal and Love...

Interesting that Joe Fann just posted this article on cutting Adams yesterday:

Interesting signing on what this means for Jamal. I'm gonna wait till we get the details on the contract. If Schefter is reporting the contract terms it'll be coming from the player's agent who will always give the top possible amount.

Love offers a diverse skill set as a defensive back who can serve as a ballhawk in the deep third and make plays in the box

Love is a good tackler in space, with his 80 tackles in 2022 the 7th most among safeties and his 6 missed tackles the 2nd fewest

2nd fewest over the last 3 years, by PFF stats.

-- While dealing with his injury, Jamal gained 27 pounds, and the Hawks will now be playing him at inside linebacker.

-- Okay, probably not, but this could be a sign that his salary will be playing inside linebacker. I would love to see this defense with Adams on it, but all this money being spent and ILB still not fully addressed, gives me pause. This does feel like prep for a salary dump. I would prefer a major restructure with Adams, but his, shall we say self confidence, makes me think that is unlikely.
